Leaked emails by a former top aide who disparaged Black Lives Matter activists have put Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti on the defensive following a report that isn’t likely to sit well with the “woke” mob that ruthlessly polices ideological conformity on the left.

According to a report by Vice News, Ana Guerrero who served as Garcetti’s chief of staff “was irritated over the praise the mayor was receiving after declaring LA a sanctuary city, where law enforcement won’t alert the feds to the presence of undocumented immigrants.”

In the 2016 email to the Office of Immigrant Affairs, Guerrero wrote, “I am getting annoyed by all the lefties who are making that their f**king issue of the day. Not as annoying as BLM, but getting close,” apparently miffed after watching a video of the Democrat mayor expressing his agreement with a protester.

In another 2016 email, Guerrero also criticized the new civilian police chief who has ties to BLM on the day of her nomination, especially the use of the term “structural racism” which Garcetti’s top aide believed meant that “they are calling us… racists.”

At the time of the emails, BLM was still growing in strength by capitalizing on the police shootings of two black men, Alton Sterling in Baton Rouge, LA and Philando Castile in Minneapolis, MN but was still years away from being embraced by professional sports leagues and nearly all of corporate America after the movement was supercharged by the death of George Floyd.

Vice opines that the emails “show long-standing disdain for the Black Lives Matter movement inside the mayor’s office dating back to its early years,” hardly a ringing endorsement for Garcetti whose city has become a crime-ridden hellscape during his tenure, most recently drawing national attention after a 24-year-old UCLA graduate student was brutally stabbed to death in the upscale furniture store where she worked.

Compounding the public relations problem is that Garcetti himself “is referenced and copied on several of the emails, although he doesn’t participate,” the website reported.

Garcetti’s office responded to the leaked emails by issuing a statement: “The mayor and his staff have always approached the conversation about racial justice thoughtfully with a goal of bringing people together to make change. This is one of the most emotionally charged and sensitive issues we face, and there have been painful moments of disagreement that have included situations where our staff were verbally attacked in person and online while doing their jobs,”

“Those deeply personal and difficult moments have not deterred us from pursuing an unprecedented justice agenda that includes millions invested in reimagining public safety, a commission on reparations and a participatory budgeting pilot that specifically confronts the legacy of institutional racism in our city,” added the mayor’s office in the statement provided to Vice.

Guerrero, who was placed on administrative leave last year as a result of remarks that she made about Hispanic labor activist Dolores Huerta in a private Facebook group, is employed as a strategic adviser to Garcetti’s office, drawing an annual salary of $248,000 a year according to the report.

Twitter reacted to the smoking emails.

Garcetti, who was nominated by President Joe Biden as an ambassador to India last year and has been confirmed by the Senate Foreign Relations Committee despite a sexual harassment scandal involving one of his advisers, still needs to be confirmed by the entire Senate and could face a serious grilling over Guerrero’s lack of deference to BLM and his inclusion on her emails.
