Local news reporter Tori Yorgey for WSAZ in Dunbar, West Virginia was struck by a moving vehicle while being set up for a live shot. The impact sent her flying into the camera, which was knocked to the ground. But she wasn’t about to let a hit-and-run stop her from bringing the facts to the people. She simply dusted herself off, assured the audience that she was fine, and kept it rolling.
“Oh my God!” exclaimed the reporter. “I just got hit by a car but I’m ok. I just got hit by a car but I’m ok, Tim.”
WSAZ anchor Tim Irr, who may not have been able to see the live feed, responded in a rather calm manner, telling Yorgey, “That’s a first for you on TV, Tori.”
Audibly winded but seemingly unphased, Yorgey responded affirmatively when a woman offscreen asked her if she was alright.
“I’m ok,” she replied. “Yeah, you know, that’s live TV for you. It’s all good. I actually got hit by a car in college too just like that. I am so glad I’m ok.”
Appearing to be talking to the person who hit her, the reporter was kind and more than a little forgiving for the incident.
“You are ok. We’re all good. Ma’am, you are so sweet, and you are ok. It is all good,” she assured her profusely.
Irr asked where she had been hit, as he “couldn’t really tell.”
“I don’t even know, Tim. My whole life just flashed before my eyes. But this is live TV and everything’s ok. I thought I was in a safe spot, but clearly we might need to move the camera over a bit,” she replied, as professional as humanly possible given the situation.
After the dust-up, she continued her report on a water-main break, noting that it was her last week on the job. Perhaps she should find something a bit more safe, maybe in an office?
