White House press secretary Jen Psaki is being royally roasted for attempting to spin President Joe Biden’s misstatements from his press conference over the 2022 elections, claiming that the president was not trying to delegitimize or cast doubt on the midterms when that’s exactly what it sounded like to many people.
Psaki rushed to get on Twitter to do damage control, insisting that everyone didn’t just hear what they heard.
“Lets be clear: President Biden was not casting doubt on the legitimacy of the 2022 election. He was making the opposite point: In 2020, a record number of voters turned out in the face of a pandemic, and election officials made sure they could vote and have those votes counted,” Psaki tweeted. “He was explaining that the results would be illegitimate if states do what the former president asked them to do after the 2020 election: toss out ballots and overturn results after the fact. The Big Lie is putting our democracy at risk. We’re fighting to protect it.”
Biden caught people’s attention when he refused to give a forthright answer concerning whether he would recognize the midterm election results as “legitimate.” His comments occurred just hours before the left’s voting rights bill failed in the Senate in an attempt to federalize elections.

“Speaking of voting rights legislation, if this isn’t passed, do you still believe the upcoming election will be fairly conducted and its results will be legitimate?” a reporter asked Biden.
“Well, it all depends on whether or not we’re able to make the case to the American people that some of this is being set up to try to alter the outcome of the election,” Biden commented at his press conference.
“Maybe I’m just being too much of an optimist. Remember how we thought not that many people were going to show up to vote in the middle of the pandemic? We had the highest voter turnout in the history of the United States of America,” the president said.
“I think if, in fact, no matter how hard they make it for minorities to vote, I think you’re going to see them willing to stand in line, and defy that attempt to keep them from being able to vote,” he continued.
“Imagine if those attempts to say that the count was not legit, you have to recount it, we’re going to discard the following votes. I’m not saying it’s going to be legit. The increase in the prospect of being illegitimate is in direct proportion to us not being able to get these reforms passed,” Biden added, referring to Democrats’ so-called voting rights legislation.

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
It’s gonna be a blood bath and the Democrats know it.

Following her clean-up attempt on Twitter, Psaki appeared on Fox News where she reiterated that Biden’s point in saying what he said was to counteract Trump’s alleged attempts to delegitimize elections.
“I’ve talked to the president a lot about this. He absolutely is not predicting that the 2022 elections will be illegitimate,” Psaki said.
“The point he was making is that the former president asked a number of states … to overturn the outcome of the election. Now obviously, if there’s an effort to do that, we’ve got to fight against that. That’s what our commitment is to doing,” she added. “But he was not making a prediction. He has confidence in the American people. And we’re going to do everything we can to protect people’s rights.”
Her statements followed another press release where she attempted to rephrase Biden’s comments about the possibility of a “minor incursion” into Ukraine while the world waits for Russia to aggressively push into the region igniting another war.

Thread. White House can deny it, but Biden clearly refused to say 2022 results would be legitimate if Congress does not pass Democrats' voting rules bill. 'I’m not going to say it’s going to be legit.' See 'Biden: Stop the steal!' https://t.co/unzOuG2hSZ https://t.co/EquGintK1p

You can either believe what Biden said on national television yesterday or what @PressSec is now telling you he actually said.
