Rep. Matt Gaetz’s unidentified ex-girlfriend was granted immunity by prosecutors prior to testifying in front of a federal grand jury last Wednesday in a sex-trafficking investigation that the left has been drooling over for months.

“This may be a willing participant who has a smart lawyer who sought an immunity deal from the government,” CBS News legal analyst Rikki Kleiman posited in a report on Monday, barely containing enthusiasm over the prospect of nailing Gaetz. “The government does not give immunity blindly, they know what they’re getting in exchange.”

Despite the wishful thinking from the media and the left, it is unknown what the ex-girlfriend actually said in her testimony.

Katie S. Phang, who is an NBC and MSNBC legal contributor, tweeted, “Remember: it only takes 12 members of a grand jury to issue an indictment…” and then shared the CBS News article about Gaetz.

“Matt Gaetz isn’t going to sleep a wink tonight,” wrote Jon Cooper, who is a former Long Island campaign chair for former President Barack Obama and a former Finance Chairman for Draft Biden 2016.

Then he viciously tweeted, “Raise your hand if you’ll be THRILLED to see Matt Gaetz CONVICTED!”

“Matt Gaetz is soooo screwed, and I’m loving it!!” he added.

Lincoln Project co-founder Rick Wilson tweeted concerning the grant of immunity, “Not for nothing, I’m guessing…”

“Ask not for whom the clock ticks; the clock ticks for you,” former FBI Assistant Director Frank Figliuzzi outrageously wrote.

Investigators have been desperately trying to pin Gaetz over violating sex trafficking laws or obstructing justice. His ex-girlfriend is viewed as a potential key witness worthy of taking Gaetz down but there is no basis yet for that contention.

CBS News is alleging that the woman has information that is related to the allegations against Gaetz. Investigators are now focusing on a phone call that the congressman had with his ex-girlfriend and another woman who has already testified in the probe.

Gaetz has steadfastly denied any wrongdoing during the whole media circus as the left looks for a way to take him down. He claims he has never paid for sex or had sexual relations with an underage female. He has not been charged with a crime.

His attorney, Isabelle Kirshner, told CBS News last week that “we have seen no credible basis for a charge against Congressman Gaetz. We remain steadfast in our commitment to challenge any allegations with the facts and law.”

The investigation is fixating on a 2018 trip Gaetz took to the Bahamas with his ex-girlfriend, another woman, and an 18-year-old woman who is alleged to have been in a sexual relationship with Gaetz at the time. The sticking point is whether Gaetz had sex with the girl before she turned 18.

Investigators are still searching for the 18-year-old woman at the center of the investigation.

Those looking into the incident are also attempting to determine whether any of the three women on the trip were paid and were illegally trafficked across the U.S. border into Florida for the purpose of sex with Gaetz, all of which Gaetz has refuted.

CBS News has two sources who are asserting it was Joel Greenberg, a former Florida county tax collector, who introduced Gaetz to the alleged woman when she was 17-years-old.

Greenberg pleaded guilty in May 2021 to six federal charges that included the trafficking of a minor.

He admitted he was involved in “sugar daddy” relationships where he paid for sex, including a minor with whom he engaged in “commercial sex acts.” The age of consent in Florida is 18.

Greenberg signed a plea agreement with the federal government. It stipulates that he’ll “cooperate fully in the investigation and prosecution of other persons.”

Gaetz is currently married to Ginger Luckey, who is the sister of Palmer Luckey, the founder of Oculus VR. They married last year despite the investigation.
