Biden to ask for more Covid funding despite Congress allocating $5.4T; analyst says ‘no more blank checks’

Congress has spent or authorized more than $5.4 trillion to fight Covid-19 over six different pieces of legislation. So why did so little of the money actually go towards anything even remotely related to healthcare, asked business analyst and Fox News contributor Liz Peek.

Writing an op-ed for Fox News, Peek was full of harsh words for the administration of President Joe Biden, which she accused of being “the most inept and irresponsible” administration in history. Peek also alleged that the Biden administration has “failed to make intelligent use of the gargantuan amounts of funds” that have been theoretically set aside for the sole use of combating Covid-19.

“More money, that is, than the $5.4 trillion already allocated by Congress via six separate pieces of legislation over the past 24 months, an unprecedented and dangerous sum that is spurring inflation and keeping people from going back to work,” Peek wrote. “A sum greater than what was spent fighting World War II or the Great Depression that somehow, according to Biden officials, has failed to adequately provide for COVID testing and remedies.”

Peek said that very little money actually went towards its alleged purpose. According to her, most of the money went towards trying to rescue Democrats who faced defeat from the far-left wing of the party, as represented by the likes of Senator Bernie Sanders (I-VT) and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY). This is in the face of the worst inflation the country has seen in decades, while the Covid-19 tests that were supposed to be paid for by the sum are still hard to come by, as people wait for them for hours in endless lines.

These tests were supposed to be paid for by vast mountains of cash – roughly $79 billion, more than the combined GDP of many nations. Yet, as Peek notes, the nation seems totally unprepared to handle them all and seems to have no real plan of action to address the “Omicron” variant of Covid-19.

“The only people being ‘rescued’ were Democrat legislators who faced losing their jobs as far-left ideologues like Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., took control of their party,” Peek wrote. “Recently, as Americans waited in hours-long lines for COVID tests, inflation hit 40-year highs, and the White House appeared totally unprepared to deal with the omicron surge, people have demanded to know: where did all the money go?”

According to an anonymous website Peek cited, claiming that it was set up as an oversight group under the 2020 America Cares Act, only $351.4 billion of the $5.4 trillion approved by Congress in that legislation was actually directed towards fighting the pandemic. That is to say, less than 7 percent.

Out of the $303 billion approved for health care, Peek alleged that the government has only spent $192 billion, a figure that includes the testing that people are waiting in such long lines for, while $111 billion approved for this reportedly goes unspent.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) was tasked for the first time with dealing with a healthcare-related issue as a public emergency and was allotted $114 billion. Yet, according to Peek, roughly $70 billion of that money has yet to be used, leading the University of Minnesota’s Michael Osterholm to ask “why can’t the White House use those funds for testing?”

The issues just keep going on, Peek noted, where everything from schools to local governments ended up not needing the money, to money that allegedly has gone missing, such as $100 billion that may have been stolen from the Paycheck Protection Program. The entire multi-trillion dollar package has allegedly been a grab bag of progressive pet projects, half of which seem to have not even collected the allotted money.

The vast amounts of money thrown around become even more difficult to justify when faced with the fact that Biden himself felt compelled to state that there appears to be no “federal solution” to the Covid-19 pandemic, effectively admitting defeat after running on a campaign to do whatever it took to stop the spread of the pandemic.

Peek ended her piece by rebuking the Biden administration and insisting that voters put the brakes on any more mega spending bills:

“Voters must insist: no more blank checks for the incompetent Joe Biden White House.”
