U.S. Rep. Liz Cheney, R – Wyoming, responded to her fellow Republicans who have repeatedly bashed her for her stance on former President Donald Trump as well as the activities of January 6, 2021.

While appearing on journalist Bari Weiss’ eponymous podcast “Honestly with Bari Weiss,” Cheney expressed her disgust with how Fox News host Tucker Carlson, Sen. Ted Cruz, R – Texas, and Sen. Josh Hawley, R – Missouri, have responded to the riot at the Capitol. She doesn’t think they’ve done enough to “get to the bottom” of what happened that day.

“I don’t understand how those people, frankly, look themselves in the mirror,” she explained. “What we’re dealing with here is a situation where we had an assault on the Capitol and we need to understand what happened and we need to make sure the people who did it are held accountable.”

“To be in a situation where you’re unwilling to get to the bottom of what happened, where you’re trying to obstruct the investigation, where you’re rejecting the importance of an investigation or, you know, frankly, in the case of the people that you mentioned, embracing the former president,” she continued. “You know, my view is that the Republican Party is a party that’s based on conservative principles.”

Her “principles” appear to be doing whatever it takes to trash the previous administration without putting in serious effort to advance real conservative causes and legislation.

Perhaps Cruz could have earned the adoration of Cheney had he maintained his stance that what happened on January 6 was a “violent terrorist attack” and not backtracked when called on it by Carlson Thursday night.

“We are approaching a solemn anniversary this week,” Cruz had said. “And it is an anniversary of a violent terrorist attack on the Capitol where we saw the men and women of law enforcement demonstrate incredible courage, incredible bravery, risk their lives to defend the men and women who serve in this Capitol.”

But when called to answer for his remarks, which a large segment of the Republican base don’t agree with, Cruz admitted that he shouldn’t have said it, calling the comments “dumb.”

Unfortunately, this mea culpa wasn’t enough to save him from Carlson’s wrath.

“I don’t buy that,” Carlson interrupted. “I’ve known you a long time, since before you went to Senate. You were a Supreme Court contender. You take words as seriously as any man who has ever served in the Senate. and every word, you repeated that phrase, I do not believe you that used that accidentally. I just don’t.”
