‘Stop listening to the pillow guy’: Retired general says ‘ignorant’ pro-Trump troops pose ‘threat within,’ must be removed

One of the Trump-obsessed former generals who recently penned an op-ed calling for the military to purge those accused of wrongthink has doubled down on his divisive rhetoric, telling a CNN host that it’s vital to “get them out of our ranks.”

Speaking with weekend anchor Pamela Brown early Saturday morning, retired U.S. Army Brigadier Gen. Steven M. Anderson equated these dissenting military members with “enemies foreign and domestic.”

“[Y]ou know, 43 years ago I took an oath to the country that I would support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies foreign and domestic,” he said.

“And my co-authors and I and [the] VoteVets Organization we work with closely are — we’re tremendously concerned about the threat internally, the threat domestically, within the military in particular,” Anderson added, referencing the other two retired generals with whom he’d written the op-ed for The Washington Post.

Asked by Brown to explain why these dissenters worry him and his allies so much, Anderson brought up the Jan. 6th riot at the U.S. Capitol.

“Well, if you look at the extremism that has gone on within the military, you look at those that were active in the actual assault on the Capitol, over 10 percent had a military background. We all saw the pictures of the guys with the zip ties and the helmets and marching in formations into that throng,” he said.

“You know, there’s a threat within. We’ve got people that haven’t been educated. They haven’t been found out and they’ve grown in power, through perhaps inaction on the parts of some of our key leaders.”

And so, he continued, these dissenters must be purged one way or another.

“And we need to do what we can do now to identify those people, get them out of our ranks and train the rest of the force on Civics 101, about how our country is supposed to work, how elections work. Stop listening to the pillow guy and start learning about our country and how it’s actually supposed to run,” Anderson explained.

It’s true that over 10 percent of the rioters who’ve been prosecuted over the Jan. 6th incident were current or retired military members. But it’s also true that current and retired U.S. military members are linked to the far more deadly and costly Black Lives Matter riots of 2020 as well.

In June of that year, CNN reported that the spouses of several active-duty military members were organizing and marching in support of BLM. Moreover, speaking with the network, the spouses bashed the military for defending the White House against the violent rioters who’d stormed D.C. only days later.

“CNN Home Front interviewed 11 military spouses married to service members in the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines and Coast Guard. … The spouses uniformly condemned the use of military force within the United States and described being stunned — and horrified — by the images from Lafayette Square,” according to CNN.

As previously reported, Lafayette Square was overrun with violent rioters, forcing the authorities to push back with tear gas. This led to widespread controversy and accusations, with Democrats and their allies accusing the administration of having attacked “peaceful protesters.” But a report published this past summer by the Department of the Interior once and for all debunked this narrative.

Now go back to what Anderson said about “a threat within.” He was right, though not in the way he perceived it. The real internal threat appears to be from the myriads of high-ranking government officials, some in the military, who’ve adopted the rhetoric of Black Lives Matter.

In March, McClatchy reported that the Pentagon was frustrated by some service members — the dissenters — rightly challenging them over why they were “not treating the violence during [BLM riots] last summer as equal to the deadly riot at the U.S. Capitol.”

Two months later, Secretary of State Antony Blinken authorized U.S. embassies around the globe to fly the violent movement’s flag.

And then one month later in late June, Gen. Mark Milley, the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, made his infamous “white rage” remark in defense of critical race theory — the BLM-linked ideology rooted in racial essentialism.

Yet despite the U.S. government and military clearly being infiltrated by BLM ideology, members of the establishment all remain fixated on Jan. 6th and, more importantly, former President Donald Trump, whom they, including Anderson, perceive as some sort of cult leader.

“[T]he big problem here is allegiance to the Constitution versus allegiance to a leader — in this case a cult-like figure like Trump. There’s a lot of people in uniform that are confused about that. They think the president is something like a king, and it’s not. You know, we swore an oath to the Constitution. That’s how our soldiers, sailors, airmen and Marines need to act,” Anderson said, continuing his remarks on CNN this Saturday.

“We’re concerned there’s so much activity within the military that shows that people are ignorant of what our Constitution is really all about and they have responded to people like Trump. And when he tells them to jump, they’re probably willing to do that.”

There is not a single example of a military member declaring Trump king. Nor are there any examples of military members openly defying current President Joe Biden, except of course in regard to his authoritarian vaccine mandate.

Meanwhile, a multitude of officials in the government and military routinely defied Trump when he was in office. But instead of hyperventilating in paranoid fear over this defiance, the establishment celebrated it …
