A 70-year-old “visually impaired” woman in Natchitoches, Louisiana reported her husband missing this week after not speaking with him for 27 hours, only for responding police officers to find the man shot dead in his own bed in what is being ruled a homicide.

The man, William Robert ‘Bob’ Lang Jr, 76, was discovered by deputies in his home in the 100 block of Levee Road around 6 p.m. on Wednesday, according to the Natchitoches Parish Sheriff’s Office.

Lang’s death has since been ruled a homicide, though no suspects had been arrested as of Friday.

Lang’s wife was described as “a visually impaired lady” who called the sheriff’s office Wednesday to report Lang missing, concerned after reportedly not speaking with him since around 3 p.m. on Tuesday, December 28 “which was unusual,” according to the sheriff’s office.

When deputies arrived on the scene, they reportedly noticed that all of Mr. Lang’s vehicles were parked at the home and that the home had a broken window.

“The responding deputy observed a broken window glass on the residence and requested permission to enter the home to look for Mr. Lang,” the sheriff’s office said.

When police entered the home, they found Lang in bed, allegedly having suffered multiple gunshot wounds. Natchitoches Parish Asst. Coroner Steven Clanton pronounced Lang dead at the scene which was taped off until approximately 3 a.m. “with special lighting equipment brought in by deputies,” the sheriff’s office reported.

Officers have not offered a public explanation as to how Mrs. Lang failed to hear the window break, subsequent gunshots, or how she seemingly failed to discover her husband’s dead body in his bed.

Detectives have since executed a search warrant on the Lang residence, signed by the Tenth Judicial District Court, in an effort to obtain relevant evidence to aid in their investigation.

“On Thursday, detectives worked throughout the day interviewing family and friends of Mr. Lang and canvassed area residences and businesses for surveillance video that may assist in the investigation according to Sheriff Stuart Wright,” the report noted.

“Our investigators are working tirelessly in an effort to arrest the individual or individuals involved in the murder of Mr. Lang. We extend our sympathy to the Lang family,” the sheriff’s office stated.

Social media posts unearthed by the Daily Mail indicate that perhaps Mr. Lang campaigned unsuccessfully for Senate as a Republican in 2010.
