U.S. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) and liberals have been slamming Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) for being “missing” during a surge in COVID cases in Florida but he had his priorities straight… he was by the side of his cancer-stricken wife Casey while she received treatment.

“Hasn’t Gov. DeSantis been inexplicably missing for like 2 weeks? If he’s around, I would be happy to say hello,” Ocasio Cortez tweeted on December 30 in a blatant attempt to deflect as she was caught in Miami, Florida, wining and dining outside maskless while her New York constituents suffer under an oppressive COVID mandate.

“His social media team seems to have been posting old photos for weeks. In the meantime, perhaps I could help with local organizing. Folks are quite receptive here :),” the “Squad” member added.

For the first time in two weeks, DeSantis made an appearance, making no apologies for staying with his wife while she undergoes cancer treatment, a fact that Ocasio-Cortez and other leftists deliberately overlooked.

DeSantis attended a Miami faith event in Florida on New Year’s Eve with his wife Casey who is bravely battling breast cancer. While there, he was awarded the Defender of Freedom award.

In turn, the governor vowed to “protect the right to worship and won’t let anyone shut you down.”

DeSantis is scheduled to make a public appearance according to his spokesman. It will be the first one since December 19. His last press conference was on December 17. The governor has been meeting with officials and continuing the work of his office while he also stands by his wife in her hour of need. Cancer treatments can be lengthy and debilitating. A positive attitude and unwavering support are vital and that is what DeSantis is giving his wife when she needs him most.

COVID cases are reportedly surging in Florida. The Omicron variant is spreading but appears to be causing far fewer deaths than the Delta variant. The CDC reported on Friday that over 75,000 new cases have been reported in Florida.

Leftists have viciously attacked DeSantis on TV and social media for his absence. Ocasio-Cortez has been among the loudest to criticize the governor. But none of them mentioned that he told Fox News on Oct. 4 that his wife was diagnosed with breast cancer.

A spokesman for the wildly popular conservative noted on Friday that DeSantis was caring for his wife, following a December 19 doctor’s appointment that he attended with her. The illness is a private family matter and DeSantis evidently didn’t feel it was an issue that should be aired publically. But the left seized on what they thought was a weak point for him and ran with it anyway.

Ocasio-Cortez was joined by MSNBC host Joy Reid who was quick to jump on the blame train rather than actually finding out what was going on.

“Seriously, where is Ron DeSantis? It’s genuinely concerning and odd,” she stated feigning fake concern. “Florida is clearly in crisis, which mainly at this point is a leadership crisis. Would he pop back up to sue if the Biden administration were to send in federal testing and vaccine help?”

Reid continued, “A governor, not governing during a crisis; and sunning his belly on vacation instead. @GovRonDeSantis is the Nero of Ted Cruzes.”

DeSantis press secretary Christina Pushaw clapped back at Reid, attaching photos of the governor’s daily schedule, and asked, “Have you ever considered that you’re one of the reasons nobody trusts the media?”

The attacks continued with Jerry Demings, the Democratic mayor of Orange County in Florida, tearing into DeSantis during a press conference on Tuesday, according to NBC News.

He proclaimed that all residents of the Sunshine State should be “outraged,” while asking where DeSantis was. The question is obviously a Democratic talking point being used as an attack vector.

“Our residents, all Florida residents should be outraged, and they should ask the question, ‘Now, where’s our state? Where’s our governor?'” Demings disingenuously demanded. “Where is Ron DeSantis now? When was the last time you saw the governor do a press briefing regarding COVID-19?”

Kyle Lamb, who is a communication director for DeSantis, came to his defense on Twitter.

“Just FYI, [DeSantis] is not on vacation. Literally no one from our office has said that he is,” Lamb stated. “Anyone pushing that could have easily seen the public schedule and seen that he’s taking calls and meetings this past week. Not having public events does not = ‘vacation.'”
