Music legend Dionne Warwick puts Oreo on notice, ‘I will be retaliating at a later date’

Music legend Dionne Warwick set Twitter ablaze as her criticism of one of America’s most enduring brands and its array of new flavors appears to have ignited a feud with the makers of Oreo cookies.

The 81-year-old singer whose career spanned decades when she was a fixture on Billboard’s Hot 100 singles chart mixed it up with Nabisco for messing with tradition by expanding its line of the beloved milk-dipping original delight to include over a dozen new variations including chocolate hazelnut, toffee crunch, carrot cake and java chip, prompting her to ask Oreo to stick to its original flavor.

It was an image of a package of the latter that the “Queen of Twitter” sent out to her over 590 thousand followers with the message, “After asking @Oreo to stick to the original flavor, they sent me these outrageous items as a response,” also included was a package of Oreo flavored lip balm.

She added, “I will be retaliating at a later date,” effectively putting Oreo on notice that she was not amused by their snarky gift.

Warwick’s interaction with Nabisco started in October when she asked for responses from brands, prompting a response from Oreo’s official account, “well, this is fun, hi everyone.”

The “I’ll Never Love This Way Again” singer then tweeted “Hello, What is your weirdest flavor? Why are y’all doing the most? The one flavor was fine.”

Also responding to her outreach were the brands Nutter Butter which tweeted “Love you Dionne,” along with Chips Ahoy which added, “had to join the party,” NASCAR, and Duke’s Mayonnaise which chimed in with “Mayonnaise company reporting for duty.”

She followed up her communications with the brands with a video audition tape, tweeting “If these youngsters can secure brand deals, so can I,” including Oreo with the those whom she tagged.

Warwick may have been a human hits machine during her music career but has recently carved out a new niche for herself with her Twitter commentary including a viral exchange with Chance The Rapper last year when she jabbed him over his name.

She tweeted, “Hi,@chancetherapper. If you are very obviously a rapper why did you put it in your stage name? I cannot stop thinking about this.”

The rapper responded, “Sorry I’m still freaking out that u know who I am. This is amazing!”

“I will be whatever you wanna call me Ms Warwick. God bless you,” he added.

In November, she weighed on on the spat between country music superstar Taylor Swift and her ex-boyfriend, actor Jake Gyllenhaal over a missing scarf.

Warwick tweeted, “If that young man has Taylor’s scarf he should return it,” adding, “It does not belong to you. Box it up and I will pay the cost of postage, Jake.”

Warwick’s Twitter game was recently celebrated by the Newark Arts Festival with its exhibition “Dionne Warwick: Queen of Twitter,” another honor to add to her collection.

On Thursday, she took to Twitter to express her dismay over ESPN’s Mike Golic Jr. and Anish Shroff who were calling the action for the second edition of the Duke’s Mayo Bowl after Golic devoured an Oreo cookie that he had just submerged in mayonnaise.

“@espn I need both of these young men to take a paid leave and really think about what is going on here,” she wrote.

Whatever she meant when she teased retaliation has yet to be seen but many are anticipating that it will be delicious.
