A Minnesota city’s decision to give extra pay to nonwhite teachers to mentor other nonwhite teachers is “completely racist” and “liberal, feel-good BS” that could lead to a reintroduction of the abhorrent system of segregation.
That is the assessment of education activist and podcaster Cynthia Garrett who called out the policy during an appearance on Fox News’ “The Ingraham Angle” on Wednesday night.
Earlier this month, the Mankato, Minn., school board adopted the additional stipend policy as a way to increase teacher retention and reduce so-called isolation, guest host Sean Duffy noted in introducing the segment.
“Isn’t this un-American and racist?” Duffy, the former Wisconsin GOP congressman, asked Garrett.
“It is completely racist, Sean, and I ‘love’ the language of racism. ‘We want to support them, we want to make them feel good’…it’s is such liberal policy disguised as ‘we care about you,’ feel-good BS, and it is an attempt to return to something dangerous…,” Garrett replied in the clip embedded above.

Garrett went on to recall the case of Ruby Bridges, the brave New Orleans six-year-old who, under great stress, was the first student to integrate a school in the south in 1960, and the one white educator, Barbara Henry, who was willing to teach her for an entire year.
“They were in a classroom alone, Sean, and I’m sure Mrs. Henry felt unsupported and isolated, just like Ruby did. But you know what they did? They sucked it up, and they put on their big girl pants, and they found support in each other, because that’s what integration is about. It’s about understanding that support comes in all ages, races, shapes, and sizes…,” Garrett asserted.
“Yes, you can find something in common with people that look like you, but that’s not what we’re really here for. What about the big melting pot of America? This is a country that is built on a shared experience, and Ruby Bridges, her foundation is so beautiful, because the whole point of her foundation is to actually celebrate the sharing of our differences, and to attack racism through integration, not re-segregation. This little six-year-old child had more strength than these grown-ups today,” she added.
Duffy then pointed out the historical alignment between Democrats and segregation, which also includes enforcing Jim Crow laws in the south.

“It’s completely another chapter out of the same playbook,” Garrett agreed. “I don’t know why blacks are not up in arms in general, and Native Americans, and anybody else of color, because this same language that these people are using in this school board meeting will be used in exactly the same way as it slides down the slippery slope to ‘well, these children don’t feel good, they need to be around other kids of the same color, let’s go back to segregation because it is about them feeling supported.’
“Ruby Bridges says it best, ‘racism is a grown-up disease, and we’ve got to stop using our kids to spread it,'” Garrett concluded.
In the landmark 1954 Brown v. Board of Education case, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that the separate-but-equal policy in the nation’s public schools was unconstitutional. The Civil Rights Act of 1964 made racial discrimination, and other forms of bias, illegal, and numerous federal, state, and local laws and regulations followed on to the same effect.
A Minnesota state statute, however, has enabled the extra-pay program that this particular local school board is implementing. Presumably, legal challenges may follow.
In a form of cognitive dissonance while decrying systemic racism, the contemporary left, including many paternalistic, identity-politics-obsessed school boards, appears to be seeking to sow division under the guise of anti-racism.
