CNN is set to close out 2021 in a massive slump for the four-decades-old network after watching their ratings tank over the past year, leaving them in third place behind Fox News and MSNBC for overall viewership.

For the week of Dec. 6, CNN saw its Sunday primetime rating bottom out with the second-lowest ratings since 1997 according to TVNewser.

The network is so bad that Elon Musk recently joked that he was not “perverted enough” to appear on the network that has been roiled in scandal after scandal.

On the flip side, Fox News outpaced CNN and MSNBC for the 17th week in a row with more average viewers than both competing networks combined. The conservative-leaning network also enjoyed the most total viewers for 14 out of 15 cable news shows.

The top five most-watched cable news shows of the week were dominated by Fox News including “The Five” (3.38 million total viewers), “Tucker Carlson” (3.18 million), “Hannity” (2.70 million), “Special Report with Bret Baier” (2.64 million) and “The Ingraham Angle” (2.23 million).

Many people were not surprised by CNN’s sad showing with one North Carolinian providing alternative titles they felt were more accurate descriptions of the runners-up to Fox News.

CNN’s measly 585,000 prime time viewers for the week put them at No. 17 for basic cable, a minus 13 percent drop in average total primetime viewers over the previous week.

Just when you thought the embattled network’s ratings couldn’t get any worse, they also place no. 31 for the week with an average of only 120,000 viewers for primetime adults aged 25-54, a target demographic.

They did manage to eke out more average adults aged 25-54 than MSNBC for the week.

In an epic spin doctor report last week, CNN managed to ignore Fox News’ domination of the television waves and massage their year-end statistics enough to pat themselves on the back for being the “second most-watched year ever” and as “a top-five network in all of cable.”

It still remains to be seen if former Fox News anchor Chris Wallace’s leap to CNN’s streaming news team will help their sad ratings, but it seems unlikely as the network has been in a downward spiral in part due to the numerous instances of scandalous behavior by its talking heads.

Contributor Jeffrey Toobin was caught masturbating on a Zoom call last year with his network colleagues. Although he was welcomed back to the network after the disturbing incident, it was probably not with a handshake.

News anchor Chris Cuomo got the ax after he allegedly covered up for his big brother, former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo and his array of alleged sexual misconduct.

“There is a reason CNN’s viewership is at an embarrassing historic low. It’s because they have pushed propaganda, misinformation, and conspiracy theories like the Steele dossier, messaging from the Chinese Communist Party, and [Andrew] Cuomo’s coronation. Chris Cuomo needs to be fired immediately. CNN has zero credibility to salvage,” Rep. Elise Stefanik told Fox News early last month.

Two CNN producers, one of which was just fired after being arrested, find themselves mired in sex scandals involving minor girls and their mothers, as well.
