WaPo: Those who followed the rules, got vaxed are about to get Covid and should not feel ‘ashamed’

The Washington Post is having a rough one as it attempts to console those who followed all COVID-19 restrictions, got the jabs and the boosters, and are still catching the virus.

There is a certain contingent of people who pride themselves on being double-gloved, double-masked, and double vaxxed just to go outside to get the mail. Thanks to the rampant new Omicron variant, even these people are coming down with COVID, and they appear to be having a difficult time coping with it.

Apparently, now that everyone is catching it, including the “sophisticated” crowd, some sympathy for the sick is warranted.

Keep in mind that this is from the same outlet that had to post an entire op-ed reminding their completely well-adjusted and not at all Mean Girl-esque audience that they should “resist the urge to take even a moment’s satisfaction in anyone’s suffering” as Omicron sweeps through America “inflicting the most damage on heavily Republican areas.”

Now that liberals are also getting sick, it’s time to tone down the rhetoric, give them a blanket and a cookie, and tell them they don’t have to be ashamed about testing positive, despite taking precautions that perhaps go far beyond standard hygiene practices and engaging in behavior that borders on neuroticism.

Really, how these people feel about themselves contracting a pandemic-inducing virus is actually a projection of how they view other people who have gotten it, and those feelings aren’t pretty, according to the Post:

Aline, who requested to be identified by her first name only for privacy reasons, is still puzzling over how she got the virus — was it because she wore a cloth mask rather than a medical-grade one? — and worries that the cough she has now could worsen because she has diabetes. That’s not the most painful part of the ordeal, though: “I feel very embarrassed and dumb,” she says, and upset that she’s causing her family stress. “It’s eye-opening that I feel so much shame from it. I’m realizing how much judgment I was secretly harboring against people who got it before.”

Liberals are losing the moral high ground in the COVID war and are being forced to look in a mirror. As it turns out, they’re not too happy with what they see. Thus, they turn to the mainstream media to justify their feelings.

The Post continues:

The sense of shame that can come with a coronavirus diagnosis isn’t surprising, says Lynn Bufka, a senior director at the American Psychological Association and a practicing licensed clinical psychologist in Maryland. “Shame has a history of being connected to various health diagnoses,” she says, such as HIV and even, for decades, cancer. “It comes from thinking that you’re being seen and judged by others, and gosh, look around. The reality is that there’s a lot of judging about people who have covid, so it’s understandable that they might feel some shame.”

Conservative Twitter had some things to say about this sudden tone change:
