President Joe Biden is reportedly preparing to deliver a grand speech about the Omicron variant come Tuesday, raising concerns that Americans could be in store for more draconian restrictions and lockdowns.
“Biden is expected to go beyond his already unveiled ‘winter plan’ with additional measures while ‘issuing a stark warning of what the winter will look like for Americans that choose to remain unvaccinated,'” NBC News reported late Saturday, quoting from a White House official.
Announced at the start of the month, the original “winter plan” focused primarily on “ramping up existing Covid-19 procedures and promoting vaccinations and booster shots.”
At the time, NBC News complained that the measures “would largely put the U.S. out of step with other countries that are clamping down with the arrival of the new omicron variant.”
In other words, NBC News and other left-wing establishment media outlets were upset that the Biden administration wasn’t promptly instituting lockdowns like, say, Austria and the Netherlands.
The good news is that potential lockdowns aren’t necessarily incoming. In tweets posted Saturday afternoon, White House press secretary appeared to suggest that the administration simply plans to provide more assistance to communities affected by the virus and issue yet another warning to the unvaccinated:
Building off his Winter Plan, @POTUS will announce new steps the Administration is taking to help communities in need of assistance, while also issuing a stark warning of what the winter will look like for Americans that choose to remain unvaccinated.
— Jen Psaki (@PressSec) December 18, 2021
We are prepared for the rising case levels, and @POTUS will detail how we will respond to this challenge. He will remind Americans that they can protect themselves from severe illness from COVID-19 by getting vaccinated and getting their booster shot when they are eligible.

In addition, CNN reported via its own sources late Saturday that some of the president’s advisors have begun “encouraging the administration to begin discussing publicly how to live alongside a virus that shows no signs of disappearing, a potentially stark shift in messaging.”
And indeed, in remarks made to the media last week, Health and Human Services Secreteary Xavier Becerra admitted a point that conservatives have been arguing for months now, which is that “it’s about severity — it’s not about cases.”
This is a good sign.
So is the president’s decision to delay his speech til Tuesday. It suggests that the administration isn’t yet encumbered by the same sense of urgency that’s taken root in the minds of COVID zealots.
If the Pres has something urgent to say about Covid, why wait until Tuesday?

However, the administration is already facing intense pushback from COVID zealots who’re demanding it do more — far more — to curb the spread of the coronavirus.
Below are just a few examples plucked from the replies to Psaki’s Saturday tweets:
Lock it down now. We see you and we will not forgive.

This is a ridiculously irresponsible and delayed response to our country’s situation. We are drowning. This is an emergency. Why is it not being treated that way?? How do you not have a plan! You are two weeks behind.

I don’t want you prepared for rising cases, I want the pandemic contained. I wanna know how I’m going to be protected from the virus spreaders. This is beyond ridiculous at this point.

This is not enough! Rapid tests are outrageous $ and in short supply. Kids under 5 are too young for the vaccine. Meanwhile, employers are calling us back to the office, domestic flights need tighter covid restrictions, and student loan payments are coming back. Please, do more.

Biden has a habit of caving to pressure from far-left activists, so this is not a good sign.
Meanwhile, although the administration hasn’t pushed for lockdowns yet, some COVID zealots in positions of power have begun taking matters into their own hands.
“Across the country, schools are beginning to shift to remote learning, restaurants are closing their doors to the public, and events are once again being canceled as a result of the new omicron variant of the coronavirus,” according to Fox News.
“Several colleges and universities such as Harvard University and Stanford University have announced they will begin the spring 2022 semester with remote learning for most students. Pennsylvania State University announced on Friday that students should “be prepared to alter plans” if the university needs to start the spring semester remotely.”
All this comes as the president’s widely panned business vaccine mandate was reinstituted by Obama and Bush judges on the 6th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals last Friday.
The mandate’s original tenure — which was cut short by the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals issuing a stay — triggered widespread layoffs/terminations, in addition to a precipitous decline in the president’s job approval ratings.
No matter how the president proceeds Tuesday, his job approval ratings will likely continue to suffer. If he institutes lockdowns, he’ll enrage non-COVID zealots on the right and center, but he doesn’t, he’ll enrage COVID zealots on the far-left.
One group of people who’ll no doubt remain upset with the president are the unvaccinated, whom the president has repeatedly demonized and whom he recently claimed are in store for a “winter of death.”
