Far-left congressional Democrats are raging mad over West Virginia Sen. Joe Manchin’s climactic announcement Sunday morning that he will NOT vote for President Joe Biden’s exorbitant “Build Back Better” plan.
In response to his announcement, they’ve been excoriating him on TV and social media for his so-called “bullshit” and allegedly bad faith negotiations.
“Let’s be clear: Manchin’s excuse is bullshit. The people of West Virginia would directly benefit from childcare, pre-Medicare expansion, and long term care, just like Minnesotans,” far-left Minnesota Rep. Ilhan Omar tweeted.
“This is exactly what we warned would happen if we separated Build Back Better from infrastructure,” she added, referencing the “bipartisan” infrastructure deal that was passed earlier this fall after “progressives” caved to the “moderates.”

She repeated some of this refrain during an appearance on MSNBC.
“We all knew that Senator Manchin couldn’t be trusted. The excuses that he just made, I think, are complete bullshit,” she said.
Listen:
Meanwhile on CNN, Rep. Ayanna Pressley accused Manchin of having negotiated in bad faith and claimed he’s belying the will of the people.
“He has continued to move the goalposts, he has never negotiated in good faith and he is obstructing the president’s agenda, 85 percent of which is still left on the table. And in obstructing the president’s agenda, he is obstructing the people’s agenda,” she said.
To be clear, a recent NPR/Marist poll found that only a 41 percent plurality of voters support the legislation. A combined 59 percent either oppose it or remain uncertain.
Notice also how she made it sound as if Manchin is single-handedly holding up the president’s agenda. This is a talking point that’s frequently heard from the left:
Manchin is Manchin. But what kind of healthy democracy is structured in a way that can allow one man elected by 290,000 voters in one of the least populous states to thwart the agenda of his party and the President who was elected with 81 million votes. We need structural change.

One man should not be able to block the will of the people, the President and 49 other Senators.

To be clear, the agenda is being blocked by 51 senators total.
Pressley also addressed Manchin’s complaint that the bill is too “mammoth” in size.
“It’s a mammoth bill to address mammoth hurt. To lower the cost of elder care, child care, prescription drug costs. The child tax credit, which is so critical in combating child poverty,” she said.
According to the People’s Policy Project, a left-wing think tank, the child tax credit as designed by BBB would in fact skyrocket child care costs. This wouldn’t affect those eligible for the credit, but it would drastically make life significantly harder for every other family.
“Families with incomes below these levels will receive subsidies that ensure they don’t have to pay the increased costs that will result from the increased child care demand and the wage, quality, and credential mandates contained in the legislation. Families with incomes above these levels will have to pay the full child care price, which will be massively higher than it was before,” the think tank notes.
The rest of Pressley’s comments continued in a similar vein, with her tossing out dubious talking points that were detached from reality.
Her colleagues were doing the same on Twitter, with far-left New York Rep. Jamaal Bowman — who’s so radical that he considers standardized testing to be a “pillar of systemic racism” — leading the brigade.
Look:
Wow @Sen_JoeManchin, with all due respect, when you say you’re a no on Build Back Better – is it you? Or is it the special interest 💰💸 that powers you?
I’m inviting you to my district to see just how badly we need this bill. Will you tell my community “No” to our face?

Build Back Better is Biden’s core campaign promise. We did everything in our power to protect it and keep his/our word.
Biden is trustworthy, Manchin is absolutely not. https://t.co/N9BwSI7NEH

It shouldn’t surprise anyone that Manchin goes on Fox to kill BBB – he’s been promising to do it for months, and some folks didn’t want to believe him. We gave up our leverage the moment BIF passed and he got the fossil fuel subsidies he wanted. https://t.co/yCejuSbSRh

Our constituents deserve so much more. We were elected to deliver economic relief, we promised to put people’s needs before corporate greed. Hold the vote and make Manchin follow through on the betrayal of his constituents instead of enjoying the attention on TV.

“I can’t get there.” I’ve heard that before, when Manchin killed off the Clean Electricity Plan.
He was wrong then and he’s dangerously wrong now.

As for the White House, it appears to be in a state of denial.
“Senator Manchin’s comments this morning on FOX are at odds with his discussions this week with the President, with White House staff, and with his own public utterances,” White House press secretary Jen Psaki reportedly said.
“If his comments on FOX and written statement indicate an end to that effort, they represent a sudden and inexplicable reversal in his position, and a breach of his commitments to the President and the Senator’s colleagues in the House and Senate.”

She forgot to mention Manchin’s commitment to his constituents in West Virginia, a red state where the majority of citizens oppose BBB …
