The outgoing director of the National Institutes of Health defended his colleague, Dr. Anthony S. Fauci, during a conversation about a House subcommittee’s efforts to abuse its power to open yet another line of attack against former President Donald J. Trump, this time blaming him for undermining the response against the COVID pandemic.
Dr. Francis Collins, who announced his retirement in October, sat for a Friday interview with Fox News on “Your World” with anchor Neil Cavuto in which he discussed the Omicron variant which has triggered a mass panic comparable to the weeks before the entire country was locked down in 2020 as well as the press release by the House Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Crisis, a document that will serve as the basis for much media chatter in the coming days.
After he provided his ominous input on Omicron, an early Christmas present to authoritarian Democrats who have exploited the pandemic to accrue sweeping new powers as well as a rejection of the idea of herd immunity, the conversation turned to Fauci and whether he was pressured by Trump to fire the elfin career bureaucrat who remains as the public face of COVID despite his constant flip-flopping and fearmongering.
Cavuto asked, “Doctor, again, I apologize if you have not had a chance to read this report, but since your name was mentioned in a couple of different key aspects of it, I did want to pursue one other part of it that there was pressure for you to fire Dr. Anthony Fauci, did you ever consider it? Did anyone tell you to consider it?”
“No, I was never asked to do that, there were a lot of rumors flying around that maybe that was about to happen and I think I did in several instances say I would not be willing to do that,” Collins responded.
“He is probably the most respected, knowledgeable infectious disease expert in the world who is basically getting in hot water because he’s speaking the truth to people who don’t want to hear it? Is that a reason for me to relieve him of his job?” he continued.
“Oh no, absolutely not, so I would not have been willing to do that, that would have been the wrong thing to do, they would have had to fire me first,” Collins said.
“So you stood by him then and stand by him now?” Cavuto asked.
“I do, “Collins responded, “I think he has discharged his duties as a public servant in remarkable ways, I find it really heartbreaking that people have decided to demonize him for political purposes when he doesn’t deserve that and his family is under constant attack and he requires 24-hour security.”
“What’s happening here? Why is it that we find it necessary to blame something that is just trying to tell you the truth?” Collins said, as the concerted effort to turn the tables on Fauci’s critics – especially congressional Republicans – becomes increasingly aggressive.
While Fauci continues to be propped up by the media, the work of the latest Democrat-stacked committee to get Trump will use the Omicron panic to open another line of attack on the past and perhaps future POTUS as a part of a multi-pronged effort to prevent him from mounting another White House run in 2024.
The roster of the Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Crisis is a veritable anti-Trump all-star team headed up by Rep. James Clyburn along with luminaries Jamie Raskin and Maxine Waters. Their statement is an obvious effort to distract from President Joe Biden’s ongoing failures to contain COVID, despite his campaign trail promises, as well as to serve as a launching pad for a preemptive strike against a Trump candidacy.
The toxic waters of the swamp are roiling and America is once again in the crosshairs as its denizens will weaponize Omicron as a political weapon of mass destruction regardless of the long-term collateral damage to the nation.
