An Illinois high school’s idea to plan a racially segregated field trip has drawn attention as the nation continues to be dragged backward by a “woke” agenda that has categorically rejected a colorblind society, a principle that not long ago was widely accepted in America.
A flyer from Downer’s Grove South High School which is located in the suburbs of Chicago announced the trip as an opportunity for students who may have aspirations of pursuing a career in teaching to visit Thomas Jefferson Junior High School in Woodridge, while not explicitly stating that white people need not bother with signing up.
“Students of Color Field Trip Opportunity,” the announcement read. “Interested in becoming a teacher? This field trip is for YOU!”
“Students will travel to Jefferson Middle School, observe a teacher and then have a question/answer luncheon and discuss the importance of considering education as a career as a person of color,” the flyer added.
Journalist Christopher F. Rufo, who has been at the forefront of the efforts to expose the cancerous spread of critical race theory through educational institutions and corporations, tweeted out an image of the announcement of the field trip which is scheduled for January 19, 2022.

Rufo also posted a response from the school’s principal.
“In a statement, the principal of Downers Grove South, Ed Schwartz, told me that the school planned the racially-segregated program to ‘provide the opportunity for students of color to be partnered with a group of teachers who look like them and have had similar life experiences,'” he wrote.

Twitter users spoke out over the counterproductive nature of the field trip.

Imagine having racial segregation in the year 2021… It’s just crazy.

This sounds great: start with field trips, then graduate to segregated classrooms, schools, neighborhoods, cities…

If any lawyer can explain to me how this is legal, I’d love to hear it.

The overriding common experience should be the American experience. Focus on what unites us, and the what divides us fades into memory.

People of all backgrounds and ethnicities need to get used to living and getting along with one another. You end bigotry and hatred with people living together, learning from one another, and bonding. Not by pushing everyone back to their own corners

Where does this idea come from? Why were students racially segregated for a field trip about becoming teachers?
This is illegal in the USA. They are following Stalin’s rules of KORENIZATSIAA. It is a trick for turning minorities into Socialists by teachers who look like them. https://t.co/vfPlJOA3dL

In additional tweets, Rufo draws the line from the toxic ideology of one of critical race theory’s leading thinkers to the embrace of the new segregation.
I have documented multiple cases of public institutions promoting “segregation for social justice.” This practice can be traced back to critical race theory, which teaches that white and black students often need separate pedagogies and spaces.

The father of critical race theory, Harvard Law Professor Derrick Bell, was a severe critic of the Supreme Court’s Brown v. Board ruling. Bell argued that racially-segregated schools could be positive for black students, provided that they obtain equal funding and resources.

Rufo also brought attention to another instance of segregation at a Denver public school that promoted a “Families of Color Playground Night,” blatant racism repackaged as equity.

Slain civil rights leader Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. famously said, “I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.”
Tragically, the “woke” zealots who dominate the nation’s educational system won’t be satisfied until they trample his dream and squander the sacrifices of those who fought the battle for civil rights in America.
