PolitiFact, a fact-checking site that purports to be an unbiased source of information, has chosen its 2021 “Lie of the Year” and it’s a doozy.

The organization picked the one topic that could be found on every Democratic talking points sheet from January until December: The Capitol Hill riot. Specifically, they decided to select all of the claims and statements “downplaying the realities and significance of the Capitol insurrection.”

That sounds more like they are attacking anyone with a difference in opinion on just how “historical” the event was, rather than actually picking a concrete lie that can be disproven by facts. (Like many of President Joe Biden’s statements and anecdotes. Were they even in the running?)

Down the rabbit hole you go:

Politifact decided to divulge their reasoning for picking the topic, claiming that they had “many options” to chose from, then proceeded to only list ones that could/have been tied to Republicans or conservatives.

But it doesn’t stop there. This year’s “Lie of the Year” designation isn’t just a simple lie, it’s an indictment on anyone with an alternative viewpoint:

Twitter wasn’t impressed by the intellectual laziness at PolitiFact, and wondered if any Democrat lies had even been briefly considered before they landed on their chosen topic:
