CNN throws out a list of Dems besides Harris who ‘might’ take Biden’s place in 2024

CNN’s Chris Cillizza published an article Monday that seeks to evaluate possible nominees for the Democratic presidential ticket should President Joe Biden elect not to run as the incumbent in 2024.

Among Biden’s many questionable leadership traits, Cillizza cited the president’s age and his political failings as the chief reasons he might be replaced as the Democratic Party nominee.

“Combine President Joe Biden’s age (he’ll be 82 shortly after the 2024 election) and his ongoing political struggles (he’s mired in the low 40s in job approval) and you get this: a series of stories examining whether Biden runs again and, if not, who might take his place,” Cillizza wrote in the article published Monday.

White House press secretary Jen Psaki said in November that “the President has every intention of running for reelection,” but Cillizza has suggested several other candidates he believes are likely to take Biden’s place in 2024. They include Vice President Kamala Harris and Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg.

He wrote of Harris that she has “undoubtedly struggled as vice president but she’s still the most likely Democrat not named Biden to wind up as the Democratic nominee in 2024.”

Cillizza then offered some arguably undue praise for Buttigieg, writing, “The most naturally talented candidate in the 2024 field, ‘Mayor Pete’ has also been front and center selling Biden’s infrastructure bill.”

By “front and center,” Cillizza must have meant absent his duties for two months of paternity leave that no one knew about beyond the inner sanctum of The White House.

Of course, no mention of possible Democratic presidential nominees is complete without failed gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams, who intends to run again for governor of Georgia, though she has yet to concede the last election she lost in the state.

“Abrams talked openly about running in 2020 before passing on the race; but she needs to win the Georgia governor’s mansion in 2022 before thinking too much about 2024,” Cillizza wrote.

Other Democrats mentioned in the article include Sen Elizabeth Warren (D-MA), Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker, Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-MN), North Carolina Gov. Roy Cooper, former New Orleans mayor Mitch Landrieu, Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo, Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, and New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy.

So basically, the usual suspects.

“If Biden decides not to run, chances are we would be looking at a very crowded field of Democrats seeking to replace him,” Cillizza concluded.

Were he to run again, Biden would be 81 on election day with his 82nd birthday right around the corner on Nov 20.

His age has called into question his fitness for the job, and he has been confronted with plenty of justifiable scrutiny over his avoidance of the press, his inability to answer questions without a script, and – as happens quite often – his departures from scripted speech into incoherent babble, though much of this is largely ignored by mainstream media because Joe Biden is a Democrat.

One of his consistent critics at least is Fox News’ Brit Hume, who has said he doesn’t believe Joe Biden will run again. In fact, said Hume, he may not even finish out his term.

As BPR reported in November, the Fox anchor said “I don’t think it’s at all clear that he [Biden] intends to run again, but I do think as a political matter, you have to say that.”

“In fact, I think the thing we have to watch is the question of whether he serves out his first term. He’s clearly deteriorating, he’s clearly senile, and his health is — despite his doctor’s claims to the contrary — you know, when you’re falling downstairs and so on, as he did climbing the stairs to Air Force One, that’s worrisome,” Hume remarked.
