It’s no secret that Tucker Carlson is no fan of Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., but the Fox News host blasted the GOP leader as “the nastiest old woman in town” over an incident involving a Republican event planner in Washington, Tim Unes, the founder and president of Event Strategies Inc., which helped plan the Trump rally on January 6 prior to the protest at the U.S. Capitol.

“For 25 years, he helped organize appearances for Bob Dole, and his wife, Elizabeth Dole — he was close to the family,” Carlson explained. “When Bob Dole died last week, Unes was the obvious choice to manage the funeral and memorial service and he would have done that if Mitch McConnell had not gotten personally involved.”

A former Senate majority leader who served in the upper chamber for 37 years and ran for president in 1996, Dole died in his sleep at home on Sunday at the age of 98.

“Now technically, Mitch McConnell is the Republican leader of the U.S. Senate but in real life, and everyone in Washington knows this, on the issues that matter Mitch McConnell is an instrument of the left,” the Fox News host charged. “McConnell knew that Tim Unes had helped organize Donald Trump’s political rallies in Washington this January. Now there’s nothing illegal or immoral about that.”

Carlson noted that organizing political rallies is a constitutionally protected behavior, saying, “That’s why we have the Bill of Rights.”

“But the partisan lunatics on the January 6th committee don’t acknowledge the Bill of Rights and they objected to this,” he continued. “And Mitch McConnell aggressively took their side as he has from the very beginning. So, McConnell then convinced the Dole family to cancel Tim Unes’ contract and disinvite him from the funeral. Then McConnell made sure the story made The New York Times and when he did that, he knew perfectly well that a piece like this would completely destroy Tim Unes’ life, which unfortunately it definitely will. It will mean no more corporate clients, and no more business and no more income for Tim Unes.”

Elizabeth Dole Foundation CEO Steve Schwab confirmed in a statement this week that the family had cut ties with Unes because of events on January 6.

“Tim Unes served as an advance staffer for the late Senator Bob Dole’s 1996 presidential campaign,” Schwab said, according to The Hill. “Along with a large network of former staff, Mr. Unes volunteered his time to serve on the advance team for this week’s memorial events honoring Senator Dole. Yesterday, I made Senator Elizabeth Dole aware of Mr. Unes’ alleged involvement in the events of January 6, 2021. Senator Dole was previously unaware of his participation and terminated his volunteer role.”

Carlson attributed this to McConnell’s “incredibly cruel” efforts — the New York Times reported that aides to McConnell informed a Dole family contact of the Jan. 6 connection.

“Even by Mitch McConnell’s usual standards of viciousness, and he is known as the nastiest old woman in town, this was an incredibly cruel thing to do,” he concluded. “It was crushing the weak on behalf of the strong and for no real reason, simply because he could — he doesn’t like Trump. Now, this is hardly the first time that Mitch McConnell has done something vicious like this. And we thought going forward we would start telling you about it, because why wouldn’t we?”
