With California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D-CA) and  Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti changing their tune in support of law and order while out-of-control looting continues to plague the former Golden State, many people are trying to pinpoint why these leftists suddenly support prosecuting criminals.

“Why now?” host Pete Hegseth asked on “Fox News Primetime” as he analyzed the recent California politician’s statements that were surprisingly in favor of law and order.

Hegseth explained that Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti almost sounded like former President Donald Trump as he proudly announced that 14 criminals tied to a recent smash and grab robbery were arrested.

“We need the help of our criminal justice system, of our judges, of our jailers,” the Democrat mayor stated. “We have opened up a lot of the city because we’re in a better place with COVID. We should be able to also open up our jails, and we should be able to have judges that put people behind those bars.”

But Hegseth pointed out that they were all let go.

“Each and every one of them, all 14,” Hegseth said. “But of course, we’re not surprised, leftist prosecutors love letting criminals walk free, it’s kind of their thing.”

The Fox News host made mention of California Governor Gavin Newsom’s recent about-face comments proffering a new opinion that repeat offenders should be prosecuted.

“If people are breaking in, people stealing your property, they need to be arrested. Police need to arrest them. Prosecutors need to prosecute them. Judges need to hold people accountable for breaking the law,” Newsom said. “These are not victimless crimes, and I have no empathy for these criminal elements.”

The Fox News host proposed that their change of heart might be due to the fact that the havoc has reached their own doorstep – and is no longer confined to the inner city..

“There’s a possibility that even these liberal lunatics, they’ve seen the light. Maybe all the chaos, violence and destruction happening right now before Eric Garcetti’s eyes, the mayor, has turned him into a changed man,” Hegseth said, alluding to recent comments from Garcetti of a possible end to the southern California county’s zero bail policy.

“Liberal elites like to oppose broken windows policing, the same policing that worked here in New York City that’s been entirely undone,” Hegseth explained. “But what happens when it’s their windows getting broken? What happens when crime and chaos hops their fence and walks through their front door?”

Although the crime wave appears to be a little too close for comfort, Hegseth chalked up their recent comments in support of criminal prosecution as “all talk.”

“They have made their lawless beds,” he concluded. “The rest of us? We’re left to sleep with one eye open.”
