AOC calls McCarthy leader of ‘KKK caucus,’ backs fellow ‘squad’ member Omar in feud with Boebert

Reacting to the ongoing feud between two U.S. House members, U.S. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) has smeared Kevin McCarthy as a politician who is supposedly trying to ingratiate himself with a mythical “Ku Klux Klan” caucus.

Without evidence, AOC made the following allegation in a message to her nearly 13 million Twitter followers:

“People truly don’t understand the scale, intensity, [and] volume of threats targeting @IlhanMN. Kevin McCarthy is so desperate to be Speaker that he is working with his Ku Klux Klan caucus to look aside [and] allow violent targeting of [women of color] members of Congress. This cannot be ignored.”

Attached to the tweet was a video clip of U.S. Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) playing a profane voicemail death threat that she says she received several hours after a contentious telephone conversation with U.S. Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-Colo.)

If the GOP takes control of the House in 2022, Minority Leader McCarthy is the favorite to become Speaker, although nothing is guaranteed, and even though he has received criticism by some lawmakers in his own party for lacking sufficient leadership qualities.

It is an unfortunate situation that politicians on both sides of the aisle routinely get death threats that can be terrifying and should be taken seriously.

Most of these presumably are from trolls, hoaxers, and other offenders who hopefully don’t actually intend to carry out physical violence, but obviously, they deserve to be investigated to make sure.

While threats should never be minimized, most of them are kept under wraps rather than publicized.

Given that the U.S. Capitol Police is under the control of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.), not McCarthy, law enforcement will or should take appropriate action if a fellow Democrat is at risk.

While Ocasio-Cortez has developed a huge social media following while often playing the victim card or the equivalent, her tweet seems to reveal a need to brush up on history, however, given the Democrat Party’s past links to the Ku Klux Klan, segregation, and Jim Crow laws.

President Joe Biden (who has a sketchy track record in the context of race-relations issues) and Hillary Clinton were apparently pals with Sen. Robert Byrd (D-WVa.), moreover, a past leader of a local KKK chapter, who later filibustered the Civil Rights Act of 1964. Biden gave the eulogy for Byrd, who was U.S. Senate majority leader in the late 1980s, at the latter’s funeral in July 2010. At the time of Byrd’s passing, Clinton similarly described him in glowing terms as her “friend and mentor.”

In follow-up tweets, Ocasio-Cortez claimed that “While people toss out clichés like ‘we condemn all forms of racism & bigotry,’ the fact is Islamophobia is far too often tolerated and ignored. Bigotry is not made unacceptable by what one says about it, it’s made acceptable based on whether there are consequences for it or not.”

“It’s not just about nasty phone calls and e-mails. GOP are given freedom to incite without consequence. They don’t have to pay for the security required from their acts — we do. They make money off it [and] they are targeting those least likely to be institutionally protected first,” she added, again seemingly without evidence.

As previously reported by BPR, radical, defund-the-police advocates like Reps. Ocasio-Cortez and Omar, and other similarly situated left-wing politicians, are private security big spenders.

In some instances, bodyguards are taxpayer-funded.

The congressional controversy got its start when conservative firebrand Boebert related an ill-advised anecdote that she reassured a staffer near an elevator that Omar “doesn’t have a backpack. We should be fine.” Omar quickly denounced the reference to a suicide bomber as “anti-Muslim bigotry.”

As alluded to above, Boebert subsequently apologized, but she explained on Instagram that the phone conversation with Omar didn’t exactly turn out to be warm and fuzzy.

“I wanted her to know directly that I had reflected on my previous remarks,” Boebert explained. “Now, as a strong Christian woman who values faith deeply, I never want anything I say to offend someone’s religion. So I told her that, even after I put out a public statement to that effect. She said that she still wanted a public apology because what I had done wasn’t good enough. So I reiterated to her what I had just said.”

“She kept asking for a public apology, so I told Ilhan Omar that she should make a public apology to the American people for her anti-American, anti-Semitic, anti-police rhetoric. She continued to press and I continued to press back,” she added. “And then Representative Omar hung up on me. Rejecting an apology and hanging up on someone is part of cancel culture 101 and a pillar of the Democrat Party.”
