Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson surprises Navy veteran with a gift that brings him to his knees

A Navy veteran is now the proud owner of a new truck thanks to Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson.

The surprise came while Johnson was conducting a special theater screening of “Red Notice” for his fans when the actor said he “wanted to do something cool for all of them,” according to his Instagram post. “I also wanted to do something BIG … something MASSIVE… something unforgettable for one fan,” Johnson continued in his post.

If Johnson’s goal was to utterly flabbergast people, especially Navy veteran Oscar Rodriguez, he succeeded. Johnson initially called Rodriguez to come forward after the movie, while still in the theater. As Johnson read out the reasons why he was singling out Rodriguez for praise, most thought Rodriguez would simply get a pat on the back and a cheer from the crowd.

When Johnson took Rodriguez outside and handed over a card explaining what was going on, Rodriguez was, like many onlookers, in a state of shock and disbelief as he read out loud the words.

“Thank you for your service, brother, enjoy your new tru-” Rodriguez got out before falling to his knees and tearing up.

“What the heck is happening!?” A shocked Rodriguez stated, face in his hands. “Oh my God!” Rodriguez exclaimed before hugging Johnson. Rodriguez was too emotional to speak for several minutes afterward.

The original plan had apparently been to give away the Porsche Taycan Johnson drove in the film, but that was axed by the manufacturer of that car. So, Johnson instead put up his own vehicle as the giveaway. Johnson said that he carefully screened everyone invited to the screening of his film, before zeroing in on Rodriguez as the appropriate recipient.

Johnson listed Rodriguez’s qualifications for being the worthy recipient at the theater, and re-iterated them on his Instagram post, citing the fact that Rodriguez is caregiver for his 75-year-old mother, a leader at his church, a personal trainer, provides meals for women victimized by domestic violence, a Navy veteran, and overall a “kind human being.”

Once Rodriguez had left in his new wheels, Johnson took a moment to think over the situation and reflect, stating that it was “just an honor for me to give a little bit of joy to someone who deserves a lot more than just my truck.”

Johnson then added with a grin “and now I can figure out how I’m getting home, ’cause I don’t have my ride.”

Speaking on his own Instagram, Rodriguez spoke of the new gift, writing “I have no words to express how blessed and grateful I am,” to caption a photo of him standing proudly in front of the large pickup, nicknamed “baby” by Johnson when he was its owner.
