Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, whose leadership has been the gold standard during the ongoing COVID pandemic — at least in the eyes of many — has infuriated Democrats and their media cheerleaders over his ability to strike a balance between public health, economic wellbeing and protecting civil liberties during a historic crisis that has been exploited by many government authorities as a means to accrue political power.
In an interview with The Daily Wire, DeSantis spilled the beans on hypocritical Democrat governors and mayors who, while locking down their citizens with cruel and arbitrary decrees that wrecked lives and destroyed businesses, were living the high life in the Sunshine State, with the Republican governor suggesting they came to lounge around “out at the pool, drinking a margarita.” Such occurrences were like “clockwork” throughout the pandemic, DeSantis insisted.
The less than stunning revelation that Democrats would not adhere to their own COVID rules was made by DeSantis during a just-released interview with conservative Ben Shapiro, founder of The Daily Wire, during a wide-ranging conversation that is sure to enrage his critics.
During his talk with Shapiro, DeSantis discussed COVID and the extreme divergence of approaches between states in which Democrats imposed iron-fisted responses and conservative states where more reasonable methods were implemented, with Florida being one of the more successful stories amid the relentless media disinformation campaign directed at him — he was vilified in the early stages while Democrats such as New York’s Andrew Cuomo were treated as heroes despite higher death and infection rates.

“I think they started weaponizing COVID against Trump and I think their meta narrative was, you know, Trump was bad that’s why they elevated people like Cuomo, because they were saying this is true leadership opposed to Trump and then me as a Republican governor in a key state, I think I was target number two and I think that’s just typical what they do, the corporate press creates partisan narratives, they don’t care about the facts” DeSantis said.
DeSantis suggested that the “experts” bore some responsibility for the smears.
“I also think there was a lot of pressure on the media from some of these scientific elites. They didn’t want a control group because they were advocating policies that were going to have a hugely detrimental effect to the social fabric,” DeSantis said in excerpts published by The Daily Wire.
“And if you could show a Sweden or a Florida or some of these other places that didn’t pay those terrible costs and still had similar outcomes in terms of COVID, then it would show that what they were advocating was not only misguided but it was actually harmful,” he added.
DeSantis also said that Democrat leaders who retreated to Florida were “out at the pool, drinking a margarita.”

EXCLUSIVE: Gov. Ron DeSantis Tells Ben Shapiro That Lockdown Democrats Were ‘Out At The Pool, Drinking A Margarita’ In Florida https://t.co/HaXdzs4y8Y

“And it was like clockwork.” He added, That that would happen throughout COVID,”
While Governor DeSantis outed Democrats for flying to Florida, where they swilled exotic drinks at the pool, he wasn’t specific about who he was referring to. One obvious culprit would be Gretchen Whitmer of Michigan whose COVID cruelty was among the worst in America.

Earlier this year, the lockdown queen drew harsh criticism after it was revealed that she traveled to Florida despite her insistence that Michigan residents refrain from doing so during spring break, Whitmer denied that she had defied her own rules by claiming that flew south to help her father, a claim that drew skepticism as well as accusations of hypocrisy, in addition to memes mocking the dictatorial Democrat.
DeSantis, who has openly clashed with President Biden and the White House over such authoritarian measures as forced masking in schools and vaccine mandates, has served as an inspiration to millions who value freedom and the ability to live their lives with a minimum of government interference, He would be a formidable candidate in 2024 if former President Donald J. Trump doesn’t run again.
