Congressman Fred Upton (R-MI), who is one of 13 Republicans who voted in favor of President Joe Biden’s infrastructure bill, received a very disturbing and threatening voicemail calling him a traitor and wishing that he, his family, and his staff would die.
“F***ing traitor. That’s what you are,” a man stated on the recording Upton shared on CNN. “You’re a f***ing piece of sh*t traitor. I hope you die. I hope everybody in your f***ing family dies. You f***ing piece of sh*t trash motherf***er. Voted for dumbass f***ing Biden? You’re stupider than he is. He can’t even complete a f***ing sentence, you dumb motherf***er, traitor, piece of sh*t motherf***er, piece of trash. I hope you die, I hope your f***ing family dies. I hope everybody in your f***ing staff dies, you f***ing piece of f***ing sh*t. Traitor!”
The moderate Republican lawmaker appeared on CNN host Anderson Cooper’s show “AC360,” voicing worry over the safety of his staff. He called the threat “very disturbing” and “a real, real bad mark in terms of the civility across the country as we’ve seen these issues like this jump.”
The call reportedly came just days after he voted for the liberal legislation.
“I’ll tell you it’s a terrible way — we have seen civility really downslide here. I’m concerned about my staff. They are taking these calls,” he remarked.
“These are very disturbing, adult language,” Upton commented. “To say the least, that truly is frightening.”
According to Upton, the threatening message is not an isolated incident.
But he is standing by his vote for the $1.2 trillion infrastructure bill, calling it “commonsense legislation.” He contends that it “will support critical infrastructure projects in MI without raising taxes or increasing the debt.”
The Bipartisan Infrastructure Bill is commonsense legislation that will support critical infrastructure projects in MI without raising taxes or increasing the debt. It will help rebuild our highways and harbors, replace lead waterpipes in Benton Harbor and across the country…

After he joined 12 other Republicans in voting for the bill, Upon said in a tweet that he was disappointed that it had become “a political football.”
“Our country can’t afford this partisan dysfunction any longer,” he added.
I regret that this good, bipartisan bill became a political football in recent weeks. Our country can’t afford this partisan dysfunction any longer. #MI06 #Infrastructure

The congressman stated that the profane call came from a South Carolina man but he did not name names. He pointed out that Republican South Carolina Senator Lindsey Graham also voted in favor of the bill.
The Republican’s vote drew anger from conservatives and he was excoriated for his stance that aligns with the Biden administration. There were a number of calls to boot those who voted for the bill from the party.
Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) angrily tweeted after the vote calling the Republicans who supported the legislation “traitors.”
“Those 13 Republican traitors who voted to pass Biden’s Socialist Infrastructure bill agree with Globalist Joe that America must depend on China to drive EV’s,” she stated.
“The unlucky 13 are China-First and America-Last,” Greene noted. “13 American job & energy killers.”

Representative Lauren Boebert (R-CO) referred to the 13 as Republicans In Name Only (RINOs).
“RINOS just passed this wasteful $1.2 trillion dollar ‘infrastructure’ bill,” Boebert tweeted. “Pelosi did not have the votes in her party to pass this garbage. Time to name names and hold these fake republicans accountable.”
