California Governor Gavin Newsom received his booster jab on October 27 and vanished from public view for over 10 days since, something that is exceedingly rare for the elected official with slicked-back hair.

The Democratic governor also canceled his much-anticipated trip to Scotland for the COP26 climate summit at the 11th hour, citing “family obligations.” according to AP News. The UN climate change meeting began in Glasgow on October 31 where leaders from around the globe planned to discuss several goals including “ambitious 2030 emissions reductions targets,” a goal that has been near and dear to Newsom, making it all the more surprising that anything would be important enough to pull the plug on his attendance.

The disappearing act led to speculation that the governor could be quarantining after having contracted COVID-19 or experiencing side effects from his Moderna booster, after receiving the single Johnson and Johnson dose back in April.

But fellow Democrat Lt. Gov. Eleni Kounalakis tried to put the kibosh on those rumors explaining that the governor who has four children, ages 5 to 12, had family obligations preventing him from attending the international conference.

“The governor has a young family and we should all be understanding, especially those of us who have been there,” Kounalakis said, who has two grown children of her own.

Erin Mellon, the governor’s spokesperson, declined to give any details of Newsom’s abrupt change in plans.

Since receiving his booster on air from Health and Human Services Secretary Dr. Mark Ghaly, Newsom has only been seen in a family Halloween photo posted on Instagram on Monday and in prerecorded messages.

A spokeswoman for the governor dismissed the speculation that Newsom’s booster was to blame for the COP26 cancellation as “misinformation.”

“The governor has been working from the Capitol this week,” she told the Daily Mail, which reported on the 10 day disappearing act.

But it doesn’t change the fact that Newsom’s social media accounts have been unusually inactive with his Twitter account dark from October 28 until Tuesday when it came back to life with tweets in support of leftists Governors Terry McAuliffe and Phil Murphy who were up for election last week.

Many that learned of his absence did not appear to be disappointed.

“Whoever has @GavinNewsom, you can keep him,” wrote Owen W. Brennen in an open letter on social media. He signed off, “Love, California.”

“Gavin Newsom disappears from public view for 10 days and skips COP26 Everyone commenting is thrilled to hear the #boostershot made you ill. No one deserves to be ill more than you for forcing this mandate! I hope you need viagra from #pfizer next!” wrote another person on social media.

Newsom recently announced the first in the nation mandate for kids to receive the rapidly-developed poke in order to attend a public school. This has been a tipping point for many parents in the former Golden State as homeschool rates during the pandemic have skyrocketed.  Although the governor escaped recall, his policies remain under fire and signature collection has begun for a ballot initiative proponents aim to have on the November 2022 ballot known as the Educational Freedom Act Initiative that would allow parents money towards alternatives to public school.

The school choice initiative would allow parents of school-age K-12 children to open an account where the State of California would initially deposit $14,000 per year. The money could be used to send the child to a private, religious or parochial school of their choice.  Unused funds would be available until the child turns 30 for college degree programs or vocational programs across the country.
