Actor Chris Pratt is facing plenty of heat over what was intended to be a testament of his love for wife Katherine Schwarzenegger.
Taking to Instagram, Pratt, 42, offered a glowing assessment of his relationship with Schwarzenegger, detailing all that she has given him, including “a gorgeous healthy daughter.”
And that’s where things went awry because, in his previous marriage to actress Anna Faris, Pratt had a son who has dealt with some health issues over the years. The former couple had a son in August 2012, who was born nine weeks premature. Weighing just 3 pounds, 12 ounces, the newborn had to spend several weeks in the NICU before he was able to go home. According to various reports, doctors told them that “[they needed] to be prepared for raising a special-needs child.”
Married in 2009, Pratt and Faris divorced in 2018. In a later interview, Pratt recalled holding his son, Jack, in the NICU: “I made promises in that moment about what kind of dad I wanted to be and I just prayed that he’d live long enough that I could keep them.”
“Our Jack went from a small, helpless little squirt to a strong, smart, happy, funny, beautiful boy who loves monster trucks and ‘Daniel Tiger,’ and, believe it or not, loves vegetables,” he added. “Broccoli and cherry tomatoes are his favorite foods.”
Nonetheless, in the eyes of some fans, his social media offering earlier this week reflected poorly on him.
“Guys. For real. Look how she’s looking at me! I mean. Find you somebody that looks at you like that!! You know!?” Pratt wrote, sharing a photo of a smiling Katherine looking adoringly upon him.
“We met in church. She’s given me an amazing life, a gorgeous healthy daughter, she chews so loudly that sometimes i put in my ear buds to drown it out, but that’s love!” he continued. “She helps me with everything. In return, periodically, I open a jar of pickles. That’s the trade. Her heart is pure and it belongs to me. My greatest treasure right next to my Ken Griffey Jr Upper Deck Rookie card. Which if you know, you know is saying a lot. It’s her birthday in about 6 weeks. So if I don’t get her anything, I’ll tell her to look back on this post. Love you honey.”

Pratt and Schwarzenegger welcomed their baby daughter, Lyla Maria, in August 2020.
As for Jack, the adorable child is “thriving,” as reported by Buzzfeed.
“Today, Jack is 9 and THRIVING. However, he did have to undergo surgeries as a newborn and currently has visual impairments as well as an ongoing, but not life-threatening, heart problem,” the site reported, sharing the Instagram photo seen here:

Some fans were prompted to voice their disapproval of Pratt’s tactics, though he had plenty of supporters who pointed out that he was simply expressing gratitude that his daughter was healthy, as any parent would.
Here’s a cross sampling of the responses to the story from Twitter:
Yes, it is. It’s ableist. And he praised her for giving him a healthy daughter. It’s quite gross and people are right to call him out on it

What kind of world is this becoming? A parent cannot be happy that one of their children will not endure the difficulties their other child is? Does it mean they love them less? The level of ignorance that is falling upon the western culture in the last decade is flabbergasting.

This is fucked up. He praised his son. Whoever the quote insulted his son in the last sentence pic.twitter.com/ggWFdHsNtp

It’s really gross to me that Chris Pratt specifically mentions that she gave him a gorgeous healthy daughter, presumably in contrast to his son from his first marriage, who was premature and has had several medical issues pic.twitter.com/7Uy0zpF9PT

Chris Pratt posted a loving note to his wife on Instagram, and now angry, bitter people are screeching about it https://t.co/IZkjMV3Ck8

Chris Pratt’s “healthy daughter” comment might have been an immeasurable foot in mouth moment, or maybe he meant it how it came off. Anna Faris clearly has enough love for beautiful Jack no matter what though. That’s what matters 🤍✨ pic.twitter.com/5kStgsKK8I
