Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, who was once respected by politicians across the board for her ability to get legislation across the finish line, no longer wields that same power as evidenced by Thursday’s infrastructure failure, but Fox News commentator Geraldo Rivera doesn’t blame Pelosi, instead he blames the “petty” progressives.

For months now, radical left Democrats in Congress have been insistent that the Bipartisan Infrastructure Framework (BIF) be linked to Biden’s massive tax and spend package, dubbed “Build Back Better.”
Initially, most Democrats, including Biden, agreed that the legislation must come across his desk in tandem but, desperate for a domestic victory ahead of the U.N. Climate Change Conference (COP26), Biden was pushing for BIF’s passage.
“What disappoints me the most here is how the progressives and the Squad have been revealed as petty politicians who would not allow an infrastructure bill to go forward, where there would be the bridges repaired and the streets and the wifi,” Rivera said on Fox News’ “The Five” on Thursday.
“They could have done so graciously, ‘yes, we want this big bill, the other bill, that remakes society and all the rest and be generous to the least amongst us, but let’s do this for everybody, where everybody benefits– a highway that’s smooth without holes in it– that benefits the rich and the poor alike’” the Fox News commentator explained.
While the sentiment of Rivera’s argument is easily understood, his own understanding of the infrastructure bill and what progressives have stuffed inside is lacking.
The actual legislation includes electric vehicle subsidies that benefit the wealthy, a journalist stimulus subsidy, an earmark of over $200 million for a park in Pelosi’s district– and that’s just some of the pork stuffed into the bill.
“The fact that they were against it and they used their power to screw Pelosi and force her into this unwieldy bill is really disappointing to me,” Rivera lamented.
The Fox News commentator said that he is a “huge fan” of the Squad’s “energy,” “new insights,” and “idealism.”
Members of the Squad played a large part in blocking the BIF’s passage Thursday.
The radical women have been vocal in their opposition to the bill and their displeasure in Biden’s “selling out” to progressive and moderate interests like that of Senators Joe Manchin (D-WV) and Kyrsten Sinema (D-AZ), who have also contributed to the bill’s hold up.
Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez retweeted Senator Jeff Merkley (D-OR), who lauded the progressive members of the House for successfully blocking infrastructure.
“The point of this two-track process was to have both the infrastructure bill and investments in America’s families and our climate pass together. Details matter, and House Progressives are right to take the time to make sure we fully deliver for the American people,” the Senator wrote.

Rivera was upset by Thursday’s revelation that the Squad, rather than being idealistic, were ‘revealed to be ruthless politicians of a different sort.”
It is unclear when the House will take up the infrastructure bill, but the victorious progressives are reportedly hopeful to pass their massive tax and spend agenda in the form of the BIF and the reconciliation package in November.
