‘Defund’ cheerleader Ilhan Omar blames ‘dysfunctional’ police amid Minneapolis crime wave

Squad member and “Defund the Police” advocate Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) outrageously claimed during a town hall event over the weekend that Minneapolis police are “dysfunctional” and that they are to blame for the rise in crime in the city.

The radical leftist accused police officers of not fulfilling their oath of office. She has previously called them a “cancer” and declared “we need to completely dismantle the Minneapolis Police Department.”

“What we must also recognize is that the reduction in policing currently in our city, and the lawlessness that is happening is due to two things,” Omar stated Saturday in Minneapolis. “One, the police have chosen to not fulfill their oath of office and to provide the public safety they are owed to the citizens they serve, right? It’s documented. But even before that, it was documented. The Minneapolis Police Department is the most dysfunctional police department, in our state and probably in the country.”

“The second part is that there has to be accountability,” she added. “And someone that is actually taking responsibility for what the police does invest into. And that doesn’t exist in this moment. And I do believe that the current charter that we have, that’s tied the hands of those who want to have that accountability because we are mandated to have a specific amount of policing, we are mandated to, you know, have the kind of these union contracts that we have right now. I don’t know any other big city in the state of Minnesota that has the charter that we have, it just doesn’t exist.”

A violent crime wave swept over Minneapolis since Democrats aggressively worked to defund the police there. Crime has skyrocketed 17 percent and a new record for murders has been set, according to MPR News.

Omar has promoted a Nov. 2 ballot measure that would replace the city’s entire police department with a “Department of Public Safety.” The measure removes the requirement that the city employs a minimum number of officers based on the city’s population.

Minneapolis is the largest city in Minnesota. Due to policies put into place by progressive leadership, the police force is suffering staffing and morale problems following the highly publicized George Floyd case.

Those on the left are blaming the police officer-involved death of Floyd for the rise in crime as well as unemployment and the pandemic. However, they have not examined the liberal policies they have instituted that are preventing police from carrying out their duties regarding crime in the city.

Omar has been accused previously of violating her oath as a congresswoman by calling for the “dismantling” of both the US economy and the U.S. political system. “As long as our economy and political systems prioritize profit without considering who is profiting, who is being shut out, we will perpetuate this inequality. We cannot stop at criminal justice system. We must begin the work of dismantling the whole system of oppression wherever we find it.”

She has called the Minneapolis Police Department “rotten to the root.” But security is evidently not at issue when it comes to her own private needs. It was revealed in FEC records that Omar has spent over $22,000 on private security, according to Fox News.

Retired DOD intelligence operative Tony Shaffer bluntly assessed Omar’s actions, “Demonize and attack the police, undermine their authority, defund and ridicule – then after you do the damage you blame them for the damage you have caused…that is the Stalinist way of @IlhanMN.”

Omar’s hypocrisy and revisionism are evident to many:
