Can we get a fact check? White House STILL pushing big fat ‘Build Back Better’ lie

Given its current track record on honesty, which begins with President Joe Biden vowing to stay in Afghanistan as long as it takes to get all Americans out, the Biden White House doesn’t appear to have much concern about deceiving the American people.

Then again, with conservative news sites on pins and needles, concerned about bogus fact-checking slights that threaten to shut them down on social media, Democrats don’t seem to have those worries, nor do they have to contend much with the media calling them out for their deception.

And while lying seems to be a rite of passage in Washington, D.C., Biden and his Democratic cohorts are taking it to a whole other level in trying to sell their massive $3.5 trillion reconciliation package, aka Biden’s “Build Back Better” plan. Just as massive is the lie they are peddling that the social welfare legislation that does double duty as the Green New Deal-lite does not cost the average American taxpayer anything.

Case in point, a tweet Sunday from the White House:

“The cost of the Build Back Better Agenda is $0. The President’s plan won’t add to our national deficit and no one making under $400,000 per year will see their taxes go up a single penny. It’s fully paid for by ensuring big corporations and the very wealthy pay their fair share.”

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., was pushing the same deception in September, declaring the multi-trillion-dollar reconciliation bill pushed by the White House would cost “zero” dollars.

“It’s not about a dollar amount,” Pelosi told reporters. “The dollar amount, as the president said, is zero. This bill will be paid for.”

“Trying to redefine the cost of a $3.5 trillion bill as zero must rank among the most shameless, patently absurd attempts to change reality through a talking point ever attempted,” wrote Rich Lowry, in an op-ed run in Politico. “It’s mind-bending logic that would mystify Lewis Carroll at the height of his creative powers.”

The Congressional Budget Office has not scored the Build Back Better Act, so Congress has not been provided with an official estimate of its long-term costs, according to the Daily Caller, which cited the Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget in reporting the bill “could ultimately force Congress to borrow up to $2.4 trillion to pay for it, with tax revenue only covering $1.1 trillion.”

The most basic question the White House tweet raises was asked by Insider columnist Josh Barro, if something doesn’t cost anything then why does it have to be paid for.

“If it doesn’t cost anything, why would it need to be paid for? This is such a bizarre talking point,” Barro tweeted. “‘[C]ost’ is not a synonym for ‘deficit impact.’ Also, I’ll be very surprised if the real deficit impact is $0, but we won’t have clarity on that until there’s a deal.”

Barro was far from being alone in calling out the misinformation coming from the Executive Mansion, which is a big tipoff on what the administration really thinks about the American people.
