Tucker warns Australia’s police state could come to America: ‘Things can change very quickly’

Horrifying images from down under where the authorities have used COVID to transform Australia into a totalitarian police state make it clear that the rugged continent has moved on from being a liberal western democracy to the authoritarian form of government that is preferred by modern liberals.

Like their Democratic party counterparts in the U.S., Australian politicians have approached the mitigation of the virus not as a public health crisis but rather, a massive power grab where citizens are locked down like prisoners, surveilled by the state, and hunted by police whose increasing use of violence has echoes of the darkest periods in human history.

Quite simply, it is no longer the place that most Americans imagine it to be, and Tucker Carlson shed light on the ugly fact that Australia has been lost in a hair-raising segment on his popular Fox News show “Tucker Carlson Tonight” on Thursday.

He also warned viewers that the repression could manifest itself in America where the Biden administration and the “public-private partnership” continue to tighten the screws, “Things can change very quickly,” he said.

According to Carlson, “One thing about Americans: they love Australia. Most Americans have never been there. It’s an awfully long way away. But when Americans think of Australia, they imagine a freer, tougher version of themselves,” he said, “Steve Irwin, Crocodile Dundee, that kind of thing. So there’s a huge reserve of affection in the United States for Australia, its culture, and its people. It’s also possible most Americans, us included, have not updated our assumptions about Australia in a while. The modern reality is a little different from what we imagine.”

Tucker then informed viewers of the 2019 raid by federal police on the Sydney offices of the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) after it aired the account of a whistleblower who embarrassed the government, an ominous sign of what would soon come after the outbreak of COVID.

“That’s not the kind of thing that happens in a free country, to put it mildly. And yet, Australia’s military and police forces never suffered any consequences for doing it; In fact, many Australians supported it,” he said, likening the action to “Chinese authoritarianism.”

Carlson continued, “Two years later, what does Australia look like? It looks a lot like China did at the beginning of the pandemic. We showed you those images from China at the time — the people being welded inside their apartments to starve, the guys in hazmat suits forcing people in quarantine boxes and driving away to some unknown destination,” he said, “At the time, our public health officials, including Tony Fauci, told us nothing like that could ever happen in our country or in the west. But that was wrong because those things are now happening in Australia.”

Turning to the terrifying descent into despotism and repression, Carlson then played a series of video clips that only a few short years ago could have been dismissed as scenes from a dystopian science fiction movie but unfortunately for Australians, they are real.

Tucker concluded, “It’s possible what’s happening in Australia might be instructive to us in the United States. In just two years, Australia’s police went from raiding newsrooms to beating people in the street. Maybe the lesson is: Things can change very quickly. One moment, the English-speaking world is mocking China for being dystopian and autocratic,” he said, “The next moment, they’re aping China and hunting people down who are two blocks from their home and smoking a cigarette.”

While the situation doesn’t get much exposure in the corrupt domestic mainstream media, Twitter is full of videos that show the crushing of freedom in Australia.

**WARNING: PROFANITY.**

It’s notable to mention that Australians allowed themselves to be disarmed, leaving themselves at the mercy of what has now become a tyrannical government.

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis also spoke of the ominous developments in Australia, suggesting that the U.S. should rethink relations with the former democracy.

According to DeSantis, “You know, you guys, look what’s going on in Australia right now. You know, they’re enforcing, after a year and a half, they’re still enforcing lockdowns by the military,” he said, “and that’s not a free country. It’s not a free country at all. In fact, I mean, I wonder why we would still have the same diplomatic relations when they’re doing that,” the governor continued in the context of the strict lockdown.

He added, “Is Australia freer than China, communist China, right now? I don’t know. The fact that that’s even a question tells you something has gone dramatically off the rails with some of this stuff.”

That a western country and key American ally like Australia could spiral into totalitarianism exposes that all of the lofty rhetoric from Democrats and the establishment elite about protecting “democracy” are just hollow words.
