Democrat-controlled Chicago has come up with at least a partial solution, albeit sad and weak, to the epidemic of deadly gun crime that turns almost every weekend into a municipal bloodbath.
Officials are installing 400-plus, wall-mounted bleeding control kits in nearly 300 public buildings in the Windy City as well as at medical clinics, senior facilities, and possibly subway stations and parks. The kits are evidently meant to be used as a stopgap measure before EMTs arrive to render treatment to victims.
“Each of the kits contain enough supplies to treat eight victims, with tourniquets, gauze, shears, gloves and an instruction manual,” NBC Chicago reported about the initiative.
According to Rich Guidice, Chicago’s emergency management and communications (OEMC) executive director, “The box has eight tourniquets and also gauze, so it’s basically to stop the bleeding.”
“We’re living in different times. And we’re doing our best to adapt to the environment that we’re living in,” he added, describing the additional supplies as “just another layer of security and protection.”
Chicago purchased the units, where cost $500 each, with a federal government grant. The kits can also be used to remedy bleeding emergencies resulting from slip and falls and “penetrating injuries.”

“OEMC said the kits are being installed under a new program called ‘Safe Chicago’ in partnership with the Chicago Fire Department, Chicago Police Department and the city’s Assets and Information Services,” the news outlet explained.
As of Monday, September 27, about 600 firearms-related homicides and nearly 2,700 shootings reportedly have occurred in America’s third-most-populous city this year.
According to a website that tracks these grim statistics, so far this year, approximately 3,500 persons have been shot overall, which may include eight who reportedly died and 59 who were wounded last weekend.
The month of September allegedly saw 89 fatal shootings with a total of 488 persons shot.
If accurate, that same website claims that a person in Chicago becomes a victim of a gun crime nearly every two hours and is murdered every 10 hours.
Chicago appears on track to unfortunately far exceed the number of murders that occurred in 2020, according to Chicago PD data.

After refusing President Trump’s offer to help while he was in office, far-left Mayor Lori Lightfoot, who previously sought to downplay the ongoing violence, asked President Biden over the summer for federal resources to combat the pervasive lawlessness.
Lightfoot has blamed the crime wave on what she considers a common enemy: “the guns and the gangs.”
In June, civil rights attorney Leo “2.0” Terrell, a Fox News contributor, accused Lightfoot of cutting “a deal with the Chicago gangs and she is going to allow them to flourish.”
