Trump foe Megan Rapinoe shocks with self-comparison to former prez: Both ‘said some wild a** s**t’

Women’s soccer star Megan Rapinoe surprisingly compared herself to former President Donald Trump, with whom she has often publicly and vehemently disagreed, during a segment for an HBO and CNN-produced documentary.

“I am who I am all the time,” Rapinoe said in the premiere of the documentary LFG Monday on CNN after it was initially broadcast on HBO Max’s streaming service.

“It’s not like some act. I mean, I don’t know if I want to make this comparison, but in the same ways that people liked that Trump just said some wild a*s s**t, but, like, I’m like that, but for good. You know? And like, we need more of that,” she said.

The former president and the U.S. Olympics soccer star have frequently traded barbs in public.

Rapinoe first gained notoriety beyond her sport when she started kneeling during the playing of the national anthem before matches, which many Americans found particularly galling since she was representing the United States in her athletic capacity. She once compared the display to be a  “good ‘F you’” to Trump and his administration in particular.

“I’ll probably never put my hand over my heart,” Rapinoe, who is gay, said in May 2019. “I’ll probably never sing the national anthem again.”

Asked if she would go to the Trump White House if her squad won a world championship in the then-still-scheduled 2020 Olympics, she responded dismissively, “I’m not going to the f—ing White House. No. I’m not going to the White House. We’re not going to be invited… I doubt it.”

She did, however, go to the White House in 2015 when then-President Barack Obama was in office.

Trump would eventually take to Twitter to clap back at the soccer star.

“I am a big fan of the American Team, and Women’s Soccer, but Megan should WIN first before she TALKS! Finish the job!” he wrote.

“We haven’t yet invited Megan or the team, but I am now inviting the TEAM, win or lose,” Trump added. “Megan should never disrespect our Country, the White House, or our Flag, especially since so much has been done for her & the team. Be proud of the Flag that you wear. The USA is doing GREAT!”

Last year during his reelection campaign, Trump announced that he was done watching women’s soccer and pledged as well to swear off the NFL after both leagues continued to allow players to kneel during the national anthem.

“I won’t be watching much anymore!” Trump tweeted in response to earlier tweets from Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.), who was incredulous that the U.S. Soccer Board of Directors repealed a rule requiring players to stand for the national anthem in the wake of George Floyd’s death in Minneapolis.

Trump also blasted Rapinoe after her squad failed to take the Gold Medal in the Tokyo Olympics.

“If our soccer team, headed by a radical group of Leftist Maniacs, wasn’t woke, they would have won the Gold Medal instead of the Bronze,” Trump said. “They should replace the wokesters with Patriots and start winning again.

“The woman with the purple hair played terribly and spends too much time thinking about Radical Left politics and not doing her job!” he added, a direct reference to Rapinoe.

More recently, the Subway restaurant franchise faced a huge backlash from owners after the company began to air advertisements with Rapinoe as a spokesperson.

“The ad should be pulled and done with,” one franchisee wrote. “It gets tiring apologizing.”
