‘Praise, God’: Schumer falsely claims all Americans who ‘wanted to get out’ of Afghanistan got out

Senate Majority Leader Charles Schumer said in an interview clip posted online that all Americans who “wanted” to get out of Afghanistan have been evacuated despite interviews published in recent days with U.S. citizens who are still trapped in the Taliban-controlled country and are trying to get out.

The interview clip, which appears to be with ABC9’s WSYR in Syracuse, features video “B-roll” of various street scenes in Afghanistan with Schumer noting that at some point, there will some “congressional oversight” regarding the evacuation.

“But at the moment, I’m still focused on trying to get some of those brave Afghans out,” he said. “The Americans, all of whom have wanted to come out have come out, praise God. But there are a lot of Afghans who risked their lives for our soldiers and others. Many got out, some didn’t.

“And I’m still working on trying to get some of them out,” he continued.

Another video clip tweeted by GOP operative Arthur Schwartz features an American woman named Nasria who literally says in an interview with Voice of America she wanted to get out of Afghanistan — and still does after being left behind by the Biden administration.

“There are days where I think to myself, am I gonna make it home? Am I gonna end up living here? Am I gonna end up dying here?” Nasria says.

Schumer’s false claim also comes as private organizations report that they are waiting for clearance from the Biden State Department to evacuate hundreds of Americans stranded at an airport in Mazar-i-Sharif.

On Sunday, Rep. Michael McFaul (R-Texas), the top Republican on the House Foreign Affairs Committee, told Fox News Sunday about the aircraft and the groups attempting to get the Americans out.

McCaul explained to a stunned anchor Chris Wallace that he knew of “six airplanes” at Mazar-i-Sharif “with American citizens on them, as I speak,” as well as several interpreters who worked with Americans, “and the Taliban is holding them hostage for demands right now.”

“Let me pick up on this, because I didn’t know this. You’re saying that there are Americans on airplanes ready to fly out of Afghanistan right now and they’re not being allowed out because the Taliban is making demands? What demands are the Taliban making?” Wallace said in response.

“They are not clearing the airplanes to depart,” McCaul replied. “They’ve sat at the airport for the last couple of days, these planes, and they are not allowed to leave. We know the reason why is because the Taliban want something in exchange.”

Earlier, Rep. Ronny Jackson (R-Texas), told Newsmax TV something similar, adding that there are more than a half-dozen of his constituents who were still trying to get out.

‘They’ve already been manifested on flights,” Jackson, a Republican, said on “Greg Kelly Reports.” ”The airplanes are there. Everything is ready to go.

“They can’t get out, and the reason they can’t get out is because the Taliban won’t release the flight until Sept. 9 because they want to be recognized as an official government,” he noted.

“They want to be officially recognized as a legitimate government,” Jackson added.
