White House press secretary Jen Psaki is being slammed as a “cisgender bigot,” “transphobe” and “sexist” for seeming to gender-shame a male reporter who’d merely asked her about the president’s fervent support for abortion.

During Thursday’s daily White House briefing, reporter Owen Jensen of the EWTN Global Catholic Network asked Psaki how President Joe Biden can be so supportive of abortion when “his own Catholic faith teaches that abortion is morally wrong.”

“Well, he believes that it’s a woman’s right, it’s a woman’s body, and it’s her choice,” the White House press secretary responded.

“Who does he believe then should look out for the unborn child?” the reporter, clearly a pro-life advocate, pressed further.

It’s at this point that Psaki tried to gender-shame him.

“He believes that it’s up to a woman to make those decisions and up to a woman to make those decisions with her doctor. I know you’ve never faced those choices nor have you ever been pregnant, but for women out there who have faced those choices, this is an incredibly difficult thing. President believes their right should be respected,” she said.

The snarky response provoked a torrent of backlash for several reasons.

One, plenty of women share Jensen’s concern.

One such woman, Students for Life president Kristan Hawkins, noted the inconsistent application of Psaki’s newfound gender standards.

“By Jen Psaki’s arbitrary standard, Joe Biden shouldn’t be commenting on abortion either as he’s never been pregnant,” she said in a statement to Fox News.

“Her sexism aside, it’s Joe Biden who uses his Catholicism as a talking point, and as a woman who has been pregnant and a proud Catholic, I would like the President to address how he can actively undermine the church’s teachings on the value of preborn life,” she added.

Concerned Women for America CEO and president Penny Young-Nance responded similarly.

“Jen Psaki excels at changing the subject anytime President Biden’s hypocrisy comes to light. Joe Biden’s pro-abortion conversion is complete and is in direct contradiction to his faith. He has taken the most radical position on abortion believing it should be legal at anytime, for any reason, any number, all paid for by the taxpayer,” she told Fox News.

Meanwhile, former Planned Parenthood director turned pro-life advocate Abby Johnson slammed Psaki’s attack on Jensen as “such a silly response.”

“It was all men who decided to legalize abortion across this country in 1973. They certainly respected a man’s decision then. The bottom line is that they simply don’t respect a man’s opinion who is prolife. But men should have a voice in whether or not their child is killed by abortion,” she said to Fox News.

Live Action founder Lila Rose also responded, but via Twitter:

The White House press secretary’s demeaning remarks also triggered backlash because the administration purports to be so-called “gender inclusive” and has even replaced the word “mothers” in official government documents with the made-up term “birthing people.” Moreover, the CDC frequently uses the term “pregnant people.”

And so, if the administration genuinely buys into this pseudo-scientific dogma, then how can it so callously assume that Jensen is a man and has never been pregnant?

It’s like Psaki is a “cisgender bigot” and “transphobe” or something, no?

Jensen’s question was prompted by the president vowing earlier that morning to launch a “whole-of-government” response against a newly enacted Texas law that essentially blocks abortions past six weeks of pregnancy.

His response came after the U.S. Supreme Court ruled late Wednesday to allow the law to remain active as it considers its constitutionality.

“[T]he impact of last night’s decision will be immediate and requires an immediate response. One reason I became the first president in history to create a Gender Policy Council was to be prepared to react to such assaults on women’s rights,” he said.

“Hence, I am directing that Council and the Office of the White House Counsel to launch a whole-of-government effort to respond to this decision,” he added.

As of Friday morning, it was still exceedingly unclear how in the world this man squares his fervent support for abortion with his alleged Catholicism …
