State Dept. puts number of Americans still trying to leave Afghanistan at 350, give or take

The situation in Afghanistan remains perilous for hundreds of American citizens still vying to leave the country after suicide bombers have further complicated the botched evacuation in the Middle Eastern country.

A State Department spokesmen indicated on Saturday that they are providing “around the clock” assistance” to the 350 Americans who remain in Afghanistan but are trying to evacuate, according to a report by Fox News. In total, around 5,400 Americans have been evacuated since August 14.

An additional 280 American citizens have been in contact with the State Department but have not indicated their plans to stay or leave.

The Department of Defense reported that the efforts in Afghanistan are a “massive diplomatic, security and humanitarian undertaking for the United States and our allies.”  At least 66 flights left the Kabul airport over the last 24 hours and 1,400 people of all nationalities had been vetted and were ready to board evacuation flights as of Saturday morning.

However, the evacuation efforts continue but have been scarred by terrorist attacks that have resulted in 13 casualties of American service members.

As of Saturday morning, the previous 24 hours of evacuation efforts totaled around 6,800 people of all nationalities.

The efforts have resulted in the evacuation of around 117,500 people who are primarily Afghan which has led to grave concerns over the possible terrorists being imported and relocated directly on American soil. In fact, up to 100 Afghans have been “flagged” by terror watch lists. according to U.S. Customs and Border Protection.

But the clock is ticking for the U.S.-led evacuation efforts. Biden warned yesterday that another terrorist attack on the Kabul airport is “highly likely” to occur in the next 24 to 36 hours.

“The situation on the ground continues to be extremely dangerous, and the threat of terrorist attacks on the airport remains high,” Biden said in a statement. “Our Commanders informed me that an attack is highly likely in the next 24-36 hours.”

Never mind that the dangerous conditions appear to be a direct result of the incompetence of the Biden administration who has faced an onslaught of well-deserved criticism. In particular, one report called the Biden administration a massive “impediment” to the private efforts that are underway to help Americans leave the country.
