CNN’s “fact-checker” rushed to the rescue Saturday after Twitter users began speculating that President Joe Biden had “fallen asleep” during his Oval Office meeting a day earlier with newly appointed Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett.

For the majority of the 13-minute meeting Friday, the president was fairly lively — or, rather, as lively as a 78-year-old man suspected of having dementia can be.

Near the tail end of the meeting, however, he began acting suspiciously by allowing his head to droop so that it was pointing down as if he was dozing off.

Here’s a screenshot from the White House’s YouTube feed:

This footage led to massive speculation that he’d “fallen asleep.”

Even renowned school safety advocate JT Lewis, the founder of Newton Helps Rwanda, raised some concerns, though to his credit, he admitted his uncertainty.

“Joe Biden appears to have fallen asleep during a meeting with the Prime Minister of Israel,” he tweeted Saturday afternoon.

Notice the use of “appears.” It was an admission that he wasn’t certain. He even included a video clip so that others could make up their own mind.

Watch:

From the responses, it seems others also got the impression that the president had indeed “fallen asleep.”

Look:

In fact, even a couple Republican members of Congress got this impression.

Look:

All this speculation provoked anger from CNN “fact-checker” Daniel Dale.

“This ‘Biden asleep’ stuff is nonsense. Full vid … shows: 1) Biden talking; 2) Biden looking at Bennett; 3) Biden looking downward, his hands moving, starting right when Bennett mentioned this week’s ‘difficult days’; 4) Biden immediately replying to Bennett,” he angrily tweeted later that afternoon.

He also retweeted a Washington Post colleague who’d also called out “this silliness.”

Look:

In this rare instance, it seems Dale had a point.

Seen below, the higher-quality full video of the meeting that he linked to does indeed show the president’s hands/fingers moving as he’s staring down.

It also shows him “immediately” replying after Bennett finishes speaking.

Watch:

That being said, critics have a point too.

Their point is that the president’s behavior was “inappropriate,” regardless of whether he’d “fallen asleep,” he’d been “dozing” or he’d just been “resting his eyes.”

Look:

Even one Biden supporter admitted that the president “looked sleepy.”

And therein lies the crux of the matter — Biden seems to always look “sleepy” and behave sleepily, be it while delivering speeches or while meeting with foreign leaders.

Is it really so much to ask that the president and commander in chief of the United States not act like a sleepy nursing home patient 24/7/365?
