As Australia implodes over brutally enforced COVID-19 mandates, journalist Glenn Greenwald is noting the insanity of their diktats concerning the pandemic and says they resemble something out of an apocalyptic, “dystopian,” fascist nightmare.
“Australia has gone insane on COVID – so far to excessive authoritarian impulses – that it’s hard to put into words at this point,” Greenwald remarked on Twitter.
“This news segment is like from some dystopian sci-fi film about future fascism: the state hunts for the disobedient as news media labels them evil,” he continued and then played a clip from the Australian media (shown below) that shows how citizens are villainized and tracked for not wearing masks or being vaccinated.
What have I just watched? 😳
Whether it be psy-op/propaganda or not, this is the kind of thing being shown on Australian news channels 😱

Greenwald also noted, “But for some sectors of the liberal-left, this form of authoritarianism — the state controls your actions in the name of protecting you — is *appealing*. They wish there were more of this in the US. Being ordered not to live life in the name of safety offers fetal comfort.”

He also highlighted the euthanizing of dogs in one part of Australia as a particularly pernicious form of insanity, “And the Australian officials who slaughtered these dogs in the name of COVID — to stop people from leaving their home to bring them to a shelter: all over *7* cases — should be prosecuted for animal cruelty. This is the authoritarian mindset unleashed.”

“Ordinary teenagers in Australia arrested and broadcast on TV for partying on a deserted beach late at night, while Obama is free to dance in inside tents with 400 of his best friends all unmasked, and Pelosi lavishes rich donors who sit on top of each other outside, unmasked,” Greenwald also astutely pointed out in his viral Twitter rant.

Thousands of Australian protesters angrily marched in the streets of Sydney and Melbourne on Saturday to defy the pandemic lockdowns being forced upon them, according to CNN. This comes as the country ostensibly recorded its highest single-day number of infections since the pandemic began due to the spread of the Delta variant.
Hundreds of unmasked protesters marched through Melbourne’s Central Business District before being confronted by police hours after a snap lockdown was announced for the entire state of Victoria. There are reports of people being beaten in the streets by police for daring to protest the COVID mandates. Pepper balls and pepper spray were deployed against some protesters in a crowd of more than 4,000 who were marching against COVID restrictions.
Six officers were also injured and hospitalized following the protests. There were broken noses, a broken thumb, and concussions, according to a police statement.
Hundreds of fines were issued for breaching health ordinances and 218 people were arrested and hauled off to jail including three individuals who allegedly assaulted police officers.

Hundreds also marched in Sydney. During those protests, one officer was treated for head and neck injuries, and 47 protesters were arrested. People showed up despite warnings from the police, who set up checkpoints to keep people from gathering.
In Brisbane, thousands more gathered in the city’s botanic gardens.
Previously, Australia has deployed its Defence Force soldiers to enforce draconian COVID-19 restrictions in Sydney. That move has also been met with resistance, distrust, and anger by Australians. Heavy fines are being levied on individuals who do not comply, according to CNN. Some critics are claiming that the country’s gone “full Nazi.”
It’s hard to understand why Australians are tolerating this heavy-handed authoritarianism, but then again America is not much better in some areas of the country:
I’ve had ppl argue with me that the government telling everyone to stay home for days & not even talk to their neighbors isn’t an extreme policy anymore
If the gov faces no pushback they aren’t going to just willingly give back these powers. They’ll find new reasons to use them

I have a friend in melbourne who has no problem with all of this. Crazy!

How long do they think this can last? Is their goal to have zero COVID cases forever? Unsustainable.

If I would have seen this stuff 10 years ago in a movie I would have thought it was a modern take on 1984. Now, people are just desensitized. The Overton Window has shifted and this type of thing is now accepted in society. Very scary.

Everybody I know personally here is against this stuff to some degree, but can’t say it publicly. Lots of media people and elites here are begging for stricter lockdown and more mask mandates. It’s very strange here right now. Feels like being inside John Carpenter’s They Live.

Once authoritarian control is seized, it will never be relinquished.

The NSW Police may also issue on-the-spot fines to individuals of
$1,000 for breach of a public health order
$3,000 for participating in an outdoor gathering of more than 2 people
$500 for failure to comply with a direction to wear or carry a mask for those aged 18 years or older— Tallulah Meyer (@TallulahMeyer) August 23, 2021
All part of the World Economic Forum’s “Build Back Better” plan. You WILL eat the bugs. You WILL live in the pod. You WILL own nothing and be happy. And, most importantly, you WILL obey.
