John Kerry’s family jet emitted around 30 times more carbon than average American does all year

Vocal climate change theory proponent John Kerry seems to be struggling to practice what he preaches.

Fox News conducted a review of the flight data for Kerry’s family jet, compared against an industrial emissions calculator, and discovered that the former secretary of state’s personal jet setting has produced roughly 138 metric tons of carbon pollution between January 10th and August 6th.

Ironically, Kerry is President Joe Biden’s “climate envoy” and has recently been quite vocal about the need for “climate action” at the United Nations.  As part of that role and plenty outside of that role, he has taken over 20 trips, totaling more than 26 hours in the air.

One might see the necessity of this for transoceanic flights, yet many of those were within Massachusetts, including minor jaunts between Martha’s Vineyard and Boston International Airport.  One trip involved his private jet – to Obama’s birthday party (itself a lightning rod of criticism for COVID standards of elitism and hypocrisy.)

How does that stack up against the average citizen?  The Environmental Protection Agency states that the typical family car will emit about 4.6 metric tons of carbon per year.  That means that by early August, Kerry’s aerial jaunts have emitted over 30 times the carbon pollution of the average family in a year’s worth of travel.

One critic of such apparent hypocrisy was Steve Milloy, a former member of President Donald Trump’s transition team and founder of JunkScience.com:

“John Kerry’s climate hypocrisy is writ large,” he said in a statement to Fox News, adding that if the climate “is such an immediate and existential crisis, how does [Kerry] dare own a home on the island of Martha’s Vineyard?  The only question about all this is the flavor of Kerry’s hypocrisy – elitist, cynical or both?”

Milloy points out that some aspects of Kerry’s stated goals and beliefs appear to be contradictory, being both urgent and optimistic (placing great faith in technologies that don’t exist yet), while also cynical and pessimistic:

“Elitist Kerry has justified his massive carbon footprint by saying that he is an important guy and must jet everywhere to save the planet,” Milloy said. “On the other hand, cynical Kerry has admitted that even if the world cut emissions to zero, that would not solve the ‘climate problem’ … Sure, Kerry makes a good poster child for climate hypocrisy, but he is not alone. Al Gore, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Leonardo DiCaprio, Barack Obama are some other mega-carbon footprint-making climate alarmists that come to mind. Having learned nothing from Marie Antoinette, these climate hypocrites sabotage their own efforts.”

The State Department has come to Kerry’s defense, issuing a statement to Fox News, saying “Secretary Kerry travels commercially or via military air in his role as Special Presidential Envoy for Climate.”  However, the same spokesman also clarified that Kerry wasn’t personally on any of those flights noted (commercial or military).

Regarding Kerry and private jets, there has not been any comment from the State Department regarding whether Kerry and his wife are still benefiting from Flying Squirrel LLC, the name previously reported for a private charter jet company owned by his wife, Teresa Heinz-Kerry, Fox News reported.

Nor has there been any comment on Biden’s climate czar owning stocks in the same dirty industries he claims are creating an existential crisis for the human race.  Earning a $5 million dollar salary as chairman of Bank of America’s global advisory council – a job he has never actually had to show up for, is just one example of how Kerry’s position in Biden’s administration and role in promoting climate panic has proven incredibly lucrative for the former secretary of state.
