TX doc pleads with Biden to halt ‘grossly irresponsible’ border policies until COVID surge slows

A Texas border physician who is highly respected in his community is practically begging President Joe Biden and his administration to reverse their “grossly irresponsible” immigration and border policies amid a continued crush of illegal migrants, many of whom are infected with COVID-19, which is surging around the country again in the form of the Delta variant.

Dr. Antonio Falcon of Rio Grande City said in an interview with Fox News that his office has witnessed a substantial “uptick in cases in the last couple of weeks” of the virus, even as officials in his region have reported a 900-percent rise in the number of illegal aliens detained who have tested positive for COVID-19 in July.

The family medicine doc’s increase in treating COVID-infected illegal migrants comes as “many in the mainstream media claim the surge” in cases “across the country can’t be tied to the southern border,” Fox News noted.

The network cited a Washington Post report claiming that Americans should be “confident that the surge in coronavirus cases isn’t the fault of immigrants,” while another analysis written by AIM Media’s Texas Editorial Board declared it is “unreasonable to cast any blame toward the migrants with regard to the new surge in COVID-19 cases, hospitalizations, and deaths.” Also, Fox News reported, an opinion columnist with MSNBC claimed that the COVID case surge in the Lone Star State “isn’t due to migrants.”

Falcon isn’t buying those denials.

“The uptick in cases locally is certainly linked to the number of those coming across the border who have already contracted the virus,” he told the network.

In recent days, officials in the Texas border city of McAllen reported that there have been 7,000 illegal aliens who tested positive for the virus released there since February. They add that more than 1,500 have been released in McAllen in just the past several days.

And on Sunday, National Institutes of Health Director Dr. Francis Collins admitted that the Biden administration is “failing” on COVID.

“We should not really have ever got to the place we are,” he told ABC’s “This Week.” “In that regard, yes, we are failing.”

Migrants who crossed illegally and who are summarily released by federal immigration authorities are taken to facilities run by Catholic Charities where they are COVID-tested by a third party, reports noted.

If they are positive, they are asked to quarantine and then offered a room at a site set up for that purpose. But because containment efforts are lax and poor, many infected migrants move on to local communities and beyond without local law enforcement or health officials’ knowledge, which Falcon railed again.

“That is absolutely not the way to handle such an infectious disease of this scope, especially one that’s so easily transmittable with the new variant,” Falcon said.

Other experts agree, including Chris Cabrera, a National Border Patrol Council vice president.

He told Fox News separately that Border Patrol and CBP agents are regularly releasing COVID-positive illegal aliens into the U.S. and that they fear for their health and the health of fellow Americans.

“We’re releasing people out of the door day in and day out with actual positive tests for COVID and more keep popping up,” Cabrera said, adding that several agents are either being forced into quarantine or have wound up with the virus.

For his part, Falcon said it’s not just COVID that the illegal migrants are bringing into the U.S.

“In this cloud of COVID, we also have other infectious diseases that we have to be concerned about, and nobody’s talking about it,” he told the network. “If you do a little research, you’ll find that one of the hotspots for multidrug-resistant tuberculosis is Central America.”

“The same individuals that are bringing COVID across are potentially bringing across very dangerous infections into our community, like multi-drug resistant tuberculosis, and that’s only one of several other things that can come up from Central America,” Falcon added.

“There’s absolutely no control…right now and it’s just grossly irresponsible to our community,” he said.
