Texas border town says Biden admin released over 7,000 Covid-positive migrants into US, surge escalating

Officials in the Texas border town of McAllen are lambasting the Biden administration for releasing thousands of migrants infected with COVID-19 into their community since February, even as the country began to struggle with new delta variant infections.

City officials say that more than 7,000 migrants who entered illegally tested positive for COVID-19 but were released into the community anyway, adding that more than 1,500 infected migrants have been let in over the past week alone.

In a statement in which officials announced the construction of new temporary shelters to house the “rapidly escalating” surge of illegal immigrants being released into their city, they warned that thousands more with COVID would be released soon as well.

“This significant change increases the threat of COVID spread or other lawlessness within the city. At the beginning of July, the Respite Center saw an average of 750 people per day. That number, over the course of the month, escalated to over 1,100 people per day, and so far in August has surged to over 1,900 people per day,” said the statement, according to KENS5.

“The Respite Center has capacity for only 1,236 occupants and will not allow more than its maximum occupancy at any given time. Therefore, beginning in August 2021, there has been a significant threat of leaving hundreds on the streets of McAllen with no place to turn for food, shelter, medical attention, or other humanitarian services. It was at this point that McAllen Mayor Javier Villalobos saw no option other than to declare a Local State of Disaster in McAllen so the City of McAllen could obtain necessary county and state resources to address the situation that it did not create,” the statement continued.

“Since mid-February of 2021 there have been over 7,000 confirmed COVID-19 positive immigrants released into the city of McAllen by [Customs and Border Protection], including over 1,500 new cases in the past seven days,” city officials added.

President Joe Biden took office Jan. 20; among his first acts was to sign executive orders rescinding nearly all of former President Donald Trump’s border enforcement policies and agreements with Mexico and Central American nations to keep migrants out of the U.S.

Since then, record numbers of migrants — some estimates top 1 million this year so far — have flooded into the U.S. The administration, according to eyewitnesses and border agents, is transporting tens of thousands of migrants throughout the country instead of deporting them.

According to Fox News, illegal migrants who are released by Customs and Border Protection agents are taken to Catholic Charities in the area and tested for the virus by a third party. Anyone who tests positive is asked to quarantine and then provided with a room. A private-sector intelligence report seen by BizPac Review cited that city officials indicated that COVID-positive migrants are only quarantined for 48 hours before they are released.

McAllen’s stunning announcement about the number of COVID-infected illegal immigrants being released comes amid peaking concerns about how the lack of border security is worsening the pandemic once again inside the U.S.

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) used McAllen’s numbers to attack the Biden administration anew over border policies.

“That is unacceptable and they keep doing it,” Cruz noted during a Fox News interview Wednesday.

“Joe Biden likes to talk about this pandemic, well I’ll tell you what, the election of Joe Biden and Kamala Harris was a super spreader event because their open border is endangering not just the people of Texas but people all across the country,” he added.
