The timing around the sudden reemergence of mask recommendations and mandates has some wondering whether the “super-spreader” Texas Democrats are to blame.

The question specifically is whether the Democrats flying out of Texas unmasked and then contracting the coronavirus despite being vaccinated spooked the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention into recommending that the vaccinated mask up.

“The CDC said Tuesday that it is recommending people who are vaccinated and in areas with high COVID-19 spread wear masks indoors. … The new recommendation is likely to prompt a raft of new mask mandates around the country and has already done so in the U.S. Capitol,” Fox News reported Wednesday morning.

Indeed, following the CDC’s announcement, Attending Physician of Congress Dr. Brian Monahan reportedly issued one of the nation’s first returning mask mandates.

The reintroduction of the mask mandate in Congress came on the same day that Republican Reps. Marjorie Taylor Greene, Thomas Massie and Ralph Norman filed a lawsuit against House Speaker Nancy Pelosi for the fines she’d levied on them earlier this year for violating Congress’s original mask mandate.

“The $500 fines were levied after Massie, Greene and Norman declined to wear a mask on the floor of the House of Representatives as an expression of symbolic speech that is constitutionally protected by the First Amendment,” Florida Today reported.

“They say Speaker Pelosi violated the plain language of the 27th Amendment to the Constitution when she sought to change members’ salaries as punishment for not wearing a mask on the very same day Speaker herself chose not to wear a mask,” the outlet added.

The reintroduction of mask mandates has provoked confusion, outrage and also stupidity.

Case in point: During a White House event Tuesday, Vice President Kamala Harris’s team reportedly forced everybody, including vaccinated reporters who’d tested negative for the virus earlier that day, to mask up.

When asked to explain the nonsensical requirement, her team reportedly claimed that Washington, D.C., had reinstituted its indoor mask mandate. But that wasn’t actually the case.

“Perplexed reporters reached out to city officials, who said later in the afternoon that they are reviewing the CDC guidance but are not requiring masks indoors — at least not yet,” according to the New York Post.

But this didn’t seem to matter to Harris or her team …

Granted, some conservatives appreciated what she did.

Jokes aside, again, why is everybody so spooked? Or is it just an act for the cameras?

Over in California, Gov. Gavin Newsom has required schoolchildren ages two to 11 to wear masks for their summer camps. Yet his own son was spotted this week attending one such camp — an indoor one,  to boot — maskless.

In response, the governor tried to play it off, as usual, by blaming others.

“The Newsoms were concerned to see unvaccinated children unmasked indoors at a camp their children began attending yesterday. Their kids will no longer be attending the camp,” his communications director told Fox News.

Excuses seem common among the left.

Excuses were also trotted out:

  • When Pelosi was caught getting her hair styled while unmasked (and while stylist shops were supposed to be closed) …
  • When Harris met with the “super-spreader” Texas Democrats, thus potentially bringing the virus into the White House …
  • When the media tried to learn how many White House officials are vaccinated, but the administration declined to answer …
  • Etc.

Meanwhile, according to Democrats and their media allies, the current uptick in coronavirus cases is entirely the fault of unvaccinated Republicans.

In reality, the data reportedly shows that large numbers of people in Democrat cities like Chicago, San Francisco, Philadelphia, Detroit and New York City also remain unvaccinated.

“[S]ignificant percentages of the residents of the deepest-blue cities in America are still unvaccinated, and simple math demonstrates that there just aren’t enough Trump voters around to make up the not-yet-vaccinated-and-in-no-hurry demographic in those places,” National Review reported Monday.
