23-year-old GOP candidate running for Congress a promising antithesis of AOC

Could 23-year-old college graduate Karoline Leavitt be the Republican version of AOC?

U.S. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., was the youngest member of Congress when first elected to Congress in 2018, having defeated a top-ranked Democrat in the primary before winning in the general.

Leavitt is running against two-term U.S. Rep. Chris Pappas, D-N.H., and should she prevail, she would be 25 when she takes office — the Constitution requires members to be at least 25.

Her plan to defeat Pappas is to run against President Biden’s policies and what she calls the “tyrannical … corruption” of New York’s Gov. Andrew Cuomo, the New York Post reported.

“People here, more than any state in the union, value our freedom and our liberty, and we have a federal delegation that is made up of Democrats right now who are voting in favor of policies that are infringing on our freedoms, whether it’s gun control measures, whether it’s higher taxes, whether it’s more regulations on our businesses,” Leavitt said. “Everything they’re doing is the antithesis of what New Hampshire stands for.”

The district was last represented by a Republican in 2014, with the GOP taking the seat in both midterms under Barack Obama and Pappas was re-elected last year by a slim margin of just 51% of the vote, according to the Post.

Leavitt plans to run as a “proudly pro-life, pro-liberty and pro-gun” conservative and will support police officers and oppose illegal immigration. She said she will also push policies that give “more freedom for our businesses to thrive.”

As for her youth, she said any concerns here pales in comparison to politicians who have been in DC for 40-50 years.

“My age is not the problem,” she told the paper. “The problem is the fact that we have people in Washington, DC, who have been serving twice as long, maybe three times as long, as I have been alive. If we want real change in our system, we should elect young leaders to reinvigorate our base.”

While young, Leavitt has served in the Trump White House and has worked for U.S. Rep. Elise Stefanik, R-N.Y., who has quickly ascended up the ladder in the GOP. She “took on a prominent role in messaging against Cuomo amid the Democrat’s nursing home and sexual harassment scandals — including supporting Stefanik’s early call for the governor to resign,” the Post reported.

“Karoline is one of many bright, rising Republican stars who are raising their hands to run for office to Fire Nancy Pelosi and save America. Karoline was an excellent fighter during her time working in my office and serving in the Trump Administration,” said Stefanik.

Trump has yet to announced an endorsement in the race — the 2020 GOP candidate who lost to Pappas, Matt Mowers, a former Trump aide, may run again.

If elected, Leavitt will offer a message that runs counter to AOC.

“My generation is incredibly brainwashed by the Left, by social media, by cancel culture, by the mainstream media, by Hollywood and by higher education,” Leavitt said. “My generation needs to know that socialism does not work. It will cripple our economy and will make all of us dependent on the government.”
