The entire mainstream press is abuzz over another Russian collusion delusion story. Making matters worse, the story was written by a known Russian collusion delusion smear merchant who was repeatedly exposed for publishing pure garbage during the Trump presidency.
Published in The Guardian, the most recent story by so-called “journalist” Luke Harding claims that, equipped with compromising information on former President Donald Trump, Russian President Vladimir Putin sought in 2016 to install him in the White House.
After the story’s publication, it immediately went uber-viral among “journalists” eager to share it without offering any critical pushback.
Here’s a sample of what that looked like:
Jaw dropping stuff. And wholly credible. Russia lost the Cold War but it’s winning the Troll War biglyhttps://t.co/jaR3qppJXo

Putin personally authorized a secret spy agency operation to support a “mentally unstable” Donald Trump in the 2016 US presidential election during a closed session of Russia’s national security council, according to leaked Kremlin documents.https://t.co/RoIwZwpMqw

Certainly wonder if this document is what drove high confidence assessment by 🇺🇸 Intel community “Kremlin papers appear to show Putin’s plot to put Trump in White House” https://t.co/KvCmE7jT5b

The @guardian drops a bombshell of a leak: Kremlin papers, which intelligence agencies believe to be genuine, about how Trump was recruited directly to serve Russian interests.
It was smugly comforting to suspect this. It is FREAKIN’ TERRIFYING to know.https://t.co/6eRmvNteFK

The problem is that Harding is a known smear merchant who was responsible for the completely fictitious claim that Paul Manafort had held talks with Julian Assange during former President Donald Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign.
Published in November of 2018, the story also quickly spread to every corner of the establishment media world.
“That the Guardian story would be seen as an earth-shattering revelation — one that would bring massive amounts of traffic, attention, glory, and revenue to the paper — was obvious. And that’s precisely how it was treated, as it instantly ricocheted around the media ecosystem with predictable viral speed,” Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Glenn Greenwald would note in The Intercept about two months later.
By then, it was clear that Harding’s reporting was garbage. Even The Washington Post admitted it: “[T]he Guardian’s bombshell looks as though it could be a dud.”
It would later be discovered that virtually everything Harding had ever written or said about the Russia collusion delusion conspiracy theory was bogus.
The part of the media that feigns anger at misinformation is uncritically promoting a story today by Luke Harding that Russia was blackmailing Trump — the same Harding who has published many false stories, championed the Steele Dossier and claimed Trump was long a Russian agent. pic.twitter.com/6gL7XT59cz

It was Harding who published was one of the most sensationalized stories of the Trump era: that Manafort repeatedly met Assange in the Ecuadorian Embassy. It was utterly fabricated. Everyone knows it’s bullshit, never happened. Yet the Guardian has never corrected or retracted it pic.twitter.com/v86Xzr7hHt

Now fast-forward to the present. Earlier this very week, New York magazine published a surprisingly rare, introspective piece about the massive failures in journalism surrounding the Russia collusion delusional narrative.
In this piece, the paper explicitly noted, “[M]any of the journalists who got it most wrong did the best. People like Rachel Maddow and the Guardian’s Luke Harding seem to have paid no price for their failings.”
Stunningly, this piece was published less than 24 hours before Harding dropped his latest Russian collusion delusion “bombshell.” One would think that, given his track record, journalists would have known better than to trust his newest reporting
But apparently they didn’t, and this, according to Greenwald, is exactly why the American establishment press are the least trusted “journalists” on the entire planet.
In a Twitter thread posted after the publication of Harding’s piece, he argued that the media’s willingness to blindly accept any narrative so long as it “helps their political agenda” (which is decidedly pro-Democrat and anti-Trump) is why few like them and why they deserve “contempt.”
Look:
Now suddenly, Harding claims he obtained leaked, highly sensitive Kremlin documents that just so happen to prove all the lies he’s been peddling for years, that not even Mueller’s huge team found. Because it advances liberals’ interests, journalists are uncritically spreading it. pic.twitter.com/0Cu11x7uL1

I will once use this shabby behavior to against highlight 2 points:
1) The contempt and loss of trust people harbor for the corporate media is completely justified and well-earned.
2) These outlets are by far the most prolific and destructive disseminators of disinformation.

So many journalists who claim to be angry about disinformation and fake news never object that the Guardian — to this very day — keeps this Harding story that everyone knows is a fabrication on its site, and never retracted or even corrected it. That’s because they’re frauds. pic.twitter.com/KpYMjLF8eO

I’m watching now as one journalist after the next spreads this Luke Harding story. They have no idea if the documents are real. They know he is one of the west’s most dishonest, reckless reporters. They don’t care. The story helps their political agenda. That’s all that matters.
— Glenn Greenwald (@ggreenwald) July 15, 2021
The corporate media deserve this. Don’t feel shy or ashamed to express your contempt for them. They’ve earned it. They have completely corrupted journalism and spread lies casually and frequently. No skepticism about what they say is too much:https://t.co/lxvSjiUFvy

Countless liberal corporate outlets spread this CIA lie weeks before the election — acting as CIA stenographers because they were that desperate to manipulate the outcome of the election. Why would you trust them ever again?https://t.co/HMzyBOssPt pic.twitter.com/pMhsSvFVeW
