Someone began singing the ‘Star-Spangled Banner,’ store full of TX Walmart shoppers stopped and joined

‘Attention Walmart shoppers’ perhaps got a new meaning on July 3 when customers in a Dallas-Fort Worth-area store stopped what they were doing and spontaneously began singing “The Star-Spangled Banner” with hands over their hearts. Apparently, one patron started it, and many other onlookers joined in.

The TikTok video of the pro-America singalong, which was met with a huge round of applause at the end, has since gone viral on several online platforms.

A TikTok user with the handle raised..right labeled the clip with this wording: “Very patriotic scene in Haslet, Tx Walmart 7/3/21 someone started singing the national anthem and people joined in.” Above the clip were the words “God bless Texas and God bless the USA!”

The brief clip of the patriotic performance art has been viewed millions of times already and received, as of this writing, about 180,000 likes on TikTok.

As Outkick writer Clint Lamb observed about the viral video, “Is it a little cheesy? Absolutely…

“But it’s also pretty cool, if you think about it. With so much hate for this country constantly being shoved down our throats nowadays, it’s nice to see real life people coming together and sharing an experience like this. There are so many people who still love this country, and they’re willing to do something as cheesy as screaming it in the middle of a Walmart shopping center to prove it,” he wrote.

The above comments, and others like them, perhaps particularly resonate given, for example, the recent publicity afforded the track-and-field athlete who turned her back on the American flag while the anthem played during a medal ceremony at the Olympic trials.

Or the radical Democrat congresswoman who, on Independence Day, denigrated America on Twitter for its perceived shortcomings.

Plus The New York Times, in a July 3 article, claiming — without much evidence — that the flag symbolizes disunity and is supposedly alienating to some people.

The reaction among the 17,000 TikTok comments was somewhat mixed. Some commenters said the patriotic footage brought tears to their eyes, while others claimed the whole thing smacked too much of jingoism.

Wrote one user: “A to the MEN. You made an old vet cry with pride. God Bless the USA.” Another TikToker wrote, “This is amazing!!…we need to see more of this.” Others dissed it as, among other things, “strange” and “awkward” and vowed that they would have ignored the singing and kept shopping.
