Houston parents chase down, shoot alleged ‘peeping Tom’ looking in 10-year-old daughter’s window

A Houston couple discovered a man peering into their 10-year-old daughter’s window then chased and shot him Sunday evening, according to reports.

The husband and wife discovered the “peeping Tom” after they heard their daughter screaming late in the evening when she reportedly saw him touching himself, ABC7 reported.

According to the Harris County Sheriff’s Department, the couple confronted the man, who was reportedly intoxicated, around 10 p.m. Sunday night. Both were armed with handguns and both are licensed to carry concealed, the report added.

The couple attempted to detain the man, according to the department, by ordering him to lay down in their yard while waiting for police to arrive. But the man refused to comply and instead walked to a nearby gas station, with the husband and wife in tow.

The father went inside the station to ask the clerk to call 911 while his wife held the peeping Tim at bay, ABC7 reported. But moments later, the man managed to grab his wife’s firearm and wrestle it from her.

Fearing the man was then going to shoot his wife, the husband fired first, striking the suspect three times, according to police. However, he told ABC13 he believes he struck the suspect four times — twice in the chest, once in the stomach, and once in the side.

The suspect was taken to a nearby hospital in critical condition but is now stable, according to the Harris County Sheriff’s office. Officials added that the incident will be referred to the county district attorney’s office for review by a grand jury.

The father told authorities that his daughter had told her parents in the past that someone had been watching her through her window, but he said they did not believe her.

“She looks over at the window and this guy is at her window,” the mother, who asked not to be identified, said in an interview with KPRC 2. “I can’t say that he tried to take my daughter’s innocence away — he took my daughter’s innocence away.”

“I’m literally saying, ‘you’re not going anywhere,'” she told the outlet, going on to describe her struggle with the man.

“He is wrestling with me, with my gun, and I’m like, ‘I’m not going to let you get my gun, you are not going to kill me or shoot me,’” she said. “My husband just said he heard a ‘ca, ca,’ but by that time the guy had already grabbed me, got my gun, and pulled it on myself.”

“We didn’t want this guy to get shot,” the mother added.

“We were waiting for police to detain him because I’m pretty sure if he did this to my children, he’s doing it to a lot of other children out here,” she added. “We are praying for the suspect and we are also praying for his family.”

Neither the father’s name nor the name of the suspect has been released, either.

Local news video showed police sealing off the Valero gas station and convenience mart while they conducted an investigation following the shooting.
