Alabama officials use what’s arguably the lamest excuse of all time to cancel Trump rally

Former President Trump’s rally in Mobile, Alabama at the USS Alabama Battleship Memorial Park on July 3 was unceremoniously canceled by officials because they outrageously claimed to have “partisan political” concerns.

“After the request was made, then there was contact with the Republican Party, they contacted us and then it became apparent that it was going to be a partisan political event, rather than just a patriotic event planned for that evening,” Commission Chairman Bill Tunnell told a local NBC affiliate in Alabama.

Trump was slated to be the keynote speaker at the event on Saturday, the day before Independence Day, following a massively popular rally in Ohio. Alabama Republican Party Chairman John Wahl remarked to NBC 15 that everything was set and Trump was scheduled to speak Saturday night and was excited to be back in Alabama. He noted that the former president is disappointed that the event has been canceled.

Trump is scheduled to hold a rally in Tampa, Florida on Saturday as well. It will be the second one since his presidency ended. The event is expected to be packed as almost all Trump rallies are.

Tunnell claims that the commissioners consulted with Attorney General Steve Marshall in May concerning Trump speaking at the event. The attorney general asserted there was not enough time for him to issue a formal opinion on the matter. He did point out that the park can be used for political events as long as access is “available for all political parties and candidates on an equal basis.”

Tunnell laid the blame on Former Pennsylvania Republican Senator Rick Santorum: “Rick Santorum was the straw that broke the camel’s back. And that’s when the commission went to the no partisan politics open to the public.”

Santorum previously used the park for a political rally in his 2012 presidential campaign. It is unclear precisely what occurred at that rally for Tunnell to ban constitutionally protected free speech in the park. He did not clarify the issue.

“I’ll be honest, I feel some people just didn’t want it, not just it but President Trump,” asserted local Tea Party activist Pete Riehm.

He claims that what happened concerning Trump’s speech raises free speech concerns. “If people can’t assemble in public places. Where can we assemble?” asked Riehm.

As Alabama misses out on a Trump appearance, the former president spoke to over 40,000 excited supporters in Ohio on June 26.

Trump posted a video of the event to his Rumble account. “Police departments are being gutted. Illegal aliens are overrunning their borders,” he noted at the event, criticizing the Biden administration for failing the American people since he left office. “Drug cartels and human traffickers are back in business like never before.”

“Look at schools… Left-wing indoctrination camps,” Trump stated. “Critical Race Theory is being forced on our military. Gas prices are spiking. Inflation is skyrocketing. And China, Russia, and Iran are humiliating our country.”

“Joe Biden is destroying our country right before our very own eyes. The number one priority for anyone who wants to save America is to pour every single ounce of energy you have into winning a gigantic victory in the midterms, and 2024,” he informed the audience. “There is no more dire threat today than the crisis on our southern border, other than, perhaps, our elections. That’s probably the biggest threat of all, huh? What happened in the election, it’s a disgrace, but we’ll be talking about that.”

“We will send big tech tyrants a message they cannot ever censor, cancel, or ignore,” Trump proclaimed to a cheering crowd. “We will take back the House. We will take back the Senate. And we will take back America. And we will do it soon.”

Considering Trump’s speech was scheduled in Alabama the day before the 4th of July, it almost certainly would have been a huge patriotic draw.

There was widespread anger over the cancellation on social media:
