Dems pass bill making illegal immigrants eligible for Medicaid in Oregon, taxpayers foot bill

Oregon’s Democrat-controlled state Senate passed legislation on Saturday that would make illegal immigrants in the state eligible for Medicaid-funded medical services.

And some people wonder why migrants flood our southern border with Mexico by the hundreds of thousands? Total apprehensions of migrants illegally entering the United States is expected to exceed 1 million this year alone, according to multiple reports.

Yet, Vice President Kamala Harris, tapped by President Biden to be his border czar, obfuscates about “root causes.” All she needs to do is look within her own party.

HB 335 passed in the Democrat-run Oregon House 37-21 earlier last week. The bill “expands eligibility to adults who would otherwise qualify for Medicaid-funded state medical assistance program but are excluded due to their immigration status,” Fox News reported.

Democrats took to Twitter to tout the passing of the “Cover All People Act.”

And make no mistake, Oregon Gov. Kate Brown will all but surely sign the measure into law, having expressed her support for the bill.

“All Oregonians must have quality, affordable health care, regardless of who they are or where they live,” Gov. Brown said in March. “During my time as Governor, we’ve made great strides in expanding access. Currently, 94 percent of Oregonians and 100 percent of children have access to health care. The pandemic has taught us this is not good enough. And unfortunately, our communities of color have paid the price. Gaps in coverage persist, and these gaps are disproportionately borne by communities of color.”

“Everyone deserves access to health care. It’s the right thing to do, the just thing to do. And, it’s smart economic policy,” the Democrat added, this being a reference to claims that the bill will reduce health care costs and expand job growth.

According to the Pew Research Center, there are 110,000 illegal immigrants in the state, if not more, and the program would cost $100 million over the next two years.

The Lund Report said the program would cost hundreds of millions of dollars.

“While the federal government pays the lion’s share of the cost of Medicaid, it will not pay for coverage for unauthorized immigrants, so the cost of the expanded coverage would likely fall to the state,” the Oregon-based outlet reported. “Typically, Medicaid costs taxpayers about $6,000 per covered person per year. So, covering 50,000 would cost about $300 million a year.”

The Democratic governor incorporated those living in the U.S. illegally in her remarks — conflating legal and illegal immigration is a party trademark.

“In communities urban and rural, west of the Cascades and east, our immigrant and refugee communities are the backbone of our economy throughout the state,” Brown declared. “The very least we can do in a just society is to make sure they have access to this basic human right.”

Democratic state Rep. Wlnsvey Campos, D-Aloha, who introduced the bill, was even more clear.

“Too many people in our state are at risk because they can’t afford to go to the doctor. We must and we can do better,” Campos said. “HB 3352 will improve lives and reduce suffering for our undocumented neighbors living and working in our state and also shows that in Oregon, we reject the anti-immigrant policies, actions and words that we saw coming out of the federal government over the past four years that terrorized communities.”

There was no mention of taxpayers footing the bill to pay for the health care coverage of illegal immigrants. Taxpayers who may be “terrorized” by the undue burden.
