Boom! Marjorie Taylor Greene offers to help AOC ‘calm the hysteria’

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) leveled Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) on Twitter following a Zoom call where she contended we need to view crime numbers “in context” and then called headlines decrying increasing crime rates “hysteria.”

“Let me help you with how to analyze the data and calm the hysteria @AOC. Fund the police,” Greene informed Ocasio-Cortez via Twitter.

The video call was with Rep. Jamal Bowman (D-NY) who is a big proponent of the “defund the police” movement and says that policing is rife with white supremacy. Ocasio-Cortez also covered what she sees as the growing need to “defund the police” during the virtual town hall meeting. Bowman made headlines for requesting special police protection for his home following the Jan. 6 riot.

Greene’s response comes after Ocasio-Cortez’s statement on Zoom: “We are seeing these headlines about percentage increases,” she said Friday. “Now, I want to say that any amount of harm is unacceptable and too much, but I also want to make sure that this hysteria, you know, that this doesn’t drive a hysteria and that we look at these numbers in context so that we can make responsible decisions about what to allocate in that context.”

Shootings in New York City have skyrocketed 53.2 percent this year and murders have jumped 13.3 percent year-to-date according to the NYPD.

Ocasio-Cortez suggested earlier in June that authorities should focus more on underlying public health issues instead of constructing prisons. She proclaimed it was “not acceptable” to use jails as “garbage bins.”

“If we want to reduce violent crime, if we want to reduce the number of people in our jails, the answer is to stop building more of them,” she asserted. “The answer is to make sure that we actually build more hospitals, we pay organizers, we get people mental health care and overall health care, employment, etc. It’s to support communities, not throw them away.”

Calling Ocasio-Cortez out for her “hysteria” comment was not the only slam that Greene threw the New York Democrat’s way recently. On Saturday, Greene savaged Ocasio-Cortez in a speech in Ohio calling her a “communist” over her Green New Deal.

“She’s not an American. She really doesn’t embrace our American ways,” Greene declared. “You want to know why? She has something called the ‘Green New Deal.’”

Prior to former President Trump speaking in Wellington, Ohio, Greene tore into Ocasio-Cortez and said the deal is being pushed by “the little communist from New York City.” She was rewarded with loud cheers from the audience.

Carrying on the battle between the two representatives, Ocasio-Cortez shot back on Twitter: “First of all, I’m taller than her.” Ocasio-Cortez is 5 feet, 6 inches tall, while Greene stands at 5 feet, 3 inches.

In May, Greene followed Ocasio-Cortez down a House corridor and called out to her: “Hey, Alexandria,” and asserted that she supported “terrorists and Antifa.”

Ocasio-Cortez reacted by throwing her hands into the air in frustration. She invoked her previous job as a bartender when speaking of the altercation to the press: “I used to work as a bartender,” she said: “These are the kinds of people that I threw out of bars all the time.”

Others on Twitter were less-than-impressed with Ocasio-Cortez’s “hysteria” allegation concerning rising crime rates:
