Jan 6 detainees in ‘Deplorable Jail’ allegedly being punished after advocate appears on Mark Levin show

American Greatness senior contributor Julie Kelly said Monday that Jan. 6 protesters who remain behind bars months after the Capitol incident are going to be placed on 24-hour lockdown as punishment for an interview she did over the weekend.

On Sunday, Kelly discussed the cases with Fox News’s Mark Levin, in which they both compared the different treatment so-called “MAGA” protesters are receiving from the Justice Department and other federal authorities versus leftist rioters and protesters who assailed the White House in June 2020 and a federal courthouse in Portland, Ore., for more than 100 nights throughout last summer, injuring hundreds of police officers with Molotov cocktails, laser pointers, and commercial-grade fireworks.

“It’s really important for people to understand, these people are in jail on pre-trial detention orders that are being requested by the Justice Department and signed off on by federal judges in Washington, D.C.,” Kelly said of the Jan. 6 protesters.

“These people have not engaged in one minute of a trial. In fact, their trials could be delayed until next year, which is really what the Justice Department is trying to do,” she continued. “In these pre-trial detention orders, these people are denied bail.”

“One man, who is accused of allegedly spraying [deceased Capitol Police officer] Brian Sicknick with pepper spray denied a $15 million bond package put together by 16 of his family members,” she continued, noting that the judge, an 83-year-old Reagan appointee, “said he could not see any circumstances to let this man out of jail because he attacked a cop.”

Since that interview, Kelly says, she’s been contacted by family members and other sources close to the situation and told that Jan. 6 prisoners are being singled out for even harsher treatment, including being placed on 24-hour lockdown for a week and only being allowed out of cells for showers.

“Now getting reports the Deplorable Jail will be on lockdown as punishment for Mark Levin show last night. I’ve heard this from a few sources already this morning. WHERE ARE THE LAWYERS?” she tweeted Monday, followed by: “Update. Sounds like lockdown will be 24 hours for a week starting tonight, tomorrow. Letting family know to exacerbate collective pain.”

In a follow-up interview with Levin on his daily talk radio show, Kelly elaborated on what she’s been hearing, though she admitted the reporting is unconfirmed.

“I started receiving messages from family members of the inmates earlier this morning…that the guards are going to lock them down in their cells for 24 hours,” Kelly said. They can only come out for five minutes to take showers. They’re gonna be cut off from communication with their families and their lawyers as retaliation for communicating with me and for the show we did.”

“Where are their lawyers?” Levin interjected.

Kelly explained that the roughly three dozen inmates in the MAGA protester “pod” of the D.C. jail have little-to-no means, so they are “at the mercy” of government public defenders and “court-appointed attorneys.”

Earlier this month, Republican senators sent a letter to Attorney General Merrick Garland expressing their concerns over what appears to be a two-tiered system of justice involving the Jan. 6 protesters and left-wing rioters from last summer.

“As you are aware, the mission of the DOJ is, among other things, to ensure fair and impartial administration of justice for all Americans,” the letter reads. “Today, we write to request information about our concerns regarding potential unequal justice administered in response to other recent instances of mass unrest, destruction, and loss of life throughout the United States.”

It’s not clear if the senators received a response.
